Whilst the Lionesses sadly fell short of World Cup glory during the Women’s World Cup final, their incredible campaign has left a lasting legacy on football fans both new and old.

Sales data from Sports Direct has revealed that sales of England kits saw a 32% month on month increase in revenue during the World Cup, as well as an 87% month on month increase in product page clicks for England kits and shirts.

Demand for England kits was highest after the Lionesses’ 3-1 semi final victory over hosts, Australia. Google search queries containing ‘England’ saw a huge 2111% increase on 16th August, and Sports Direct recorded an increase in revenue of 1894% on the same day.

A spokesperson at Sports Direct, says: “It’s truly inspiring to see the incredible increase in demand for England merchandise, as the entire nation threw themselves behind the Lionesses during their World Cup run.

“Following their success during the Women’s Euros in 2022, it’s clear that the Lionesses are inspiring people across the country to follow the women’s game, as well as helping new fans to get interested in football.”
