ManoManoAs the UK gets set for a season of outdoor entertaining and relaxation, households up and down the country have ‘gone green’ for Spring, as online DIY, home & garden marketplace ManoMano sees sales of eco-friendly garden tools and accessories such as water tanks and solar lighting increase by 101% and 833% respectively.

A report from Energy Saving Trust found that the average UK household uses 349 litres of water each day*, which intensifies over spring & summer as people take on outdoor tasks such as cleaning the patio or watering the plants. The same report also found that 6% of all CO₂ emissions is from water use. This year it appears the public are aiming to lower their water wastage and take a step towards a more sustainable home through the use of water butts and rainwater tanks.

By providing an alternative supply for drinking, washing and outdoor use, rainwater preservation tools will help save energy and reduce carbon footprint whilst also ensuring a more stable, resilient habitat for birds, fish, and other wildlife.

UK households are also aiming to save energy and protect the environment through solar lighting, which has seen a huge increase in sales on the marketplace. Sales of solar wall lamps have increased by 833%, whilst solar fairy lights and solar lanterns have also increased by 237% and 161% respectively.

As a renewable source of power, solar energy plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change, which continues to remain a key focus for the UK. The continuous rise in renewable energy will play a major part in reaching the UK government’s target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

As well as sourcing environmentally products, households are also taking on a more sustainable lifestyle by growing their own fruit & vegetables. Sales of hand transplanters have increased by 36% on ManoMano. Organically grown food can help reduce pollution in the air and in the water as it takes away the usage of herbicides and pesticides, whilst also helping reduce carbon emissions.

As the UK continues to work together to build a more sustainable future, ManoMano offers an advice page dedicated to helping customers take the first step towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, with hundreds of helpful guides including how to harvest rainwater, how to install a water butt, and a fruit and vegetable growing calendar.

The marketplace also provides a dedicated page for energy-saving products to help customers build a more sustainable home, as well as category pages including plant care, solar lighting, vegetable and herb plants, fruit trees and bushes and more.
