Penrhiwceiber’s Co-op re-opens (Friday, 20 June) with a fresh new look following a four-week programme of works and improvements to ‘transform’ the community store

The village store supports 12 local jobs and opens between 7am-10pm daily, it includes payment services via PayPoint, and a cash machine providing access to cash in the community, alongside an extensive range of fresh and chilled produce, in-store bakery, food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning wines and everyday essentials.

Works have also been carried out back-of-shop to improve operations, the store also has new flooring and, new refrigeration which enhances the chilled range and supports Co-op’s commitment to further cut its carbon footprint. While, soft plastic recycling enables shoppers to return and recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.

Alex Wintermute, Co-op area operations manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to re-launch Penrhiwceiber’s Co-op. We are committed to ensuring that the store is a community hub and part of local life, and it has been transformed with a fresh new-look and feel. We are here to serve and support the community, conveniently, and pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone – we are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers back into their Co-op.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back 180 years. Its 6.5m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
