Thousands roles at Iceland – with delivery drivers training for Christmas deliveries with millions of stairs

IcelandIcelandA group of delivery drivers are preparing to get their steps in and climb more than a million stairs during their Christmas deliveries, and a supermarket is stepping in to help them train for the festive season.

Iceland Foods are encouraging their drivers to make sure they are suitably equipped for festive deliveries to millions of houses and flats across the UK.

To help drivers get into peak condition, Iceland’s depot gym is open 24 hours and is equipped with everything from Stairmasters to leg press machines, so drivers can practice the art of carrying the nation’s Christmas dinners up endless flights of stairs.

Forget protein shakes and dumbbells too, Iceland’s drivers are also powerlifting party food. The gym floor is lined with shopping bags stuffed with festive essentials, so every curl, squat and Stairmaster session doubles as practice for carrying the nation’s turkeys and trimmings.

It comes as Iceland predicts their team of delivery drivers will collectively climb literally millions of stairs and steps, delivering Christmas food shopping wish lists to their customers.

Paul Dhaliwal, chief commercial officer of Iceland Foods, said: “Our drivers are the unsung heroes of Christmas. They don’t just go the extra mile they go the extra flight, ensuring that our customers get the very best service and their shopping delivered to their door, no matter what floor they live on.”

Iceland’s Christmas delivery slots open up six days in advance throughout the festive period. Customers are encouraged to secure their spot as soon as possible.

It’s not just delivery slots that have opened, with so many deliveries needing to be made over Christmas, Iceland is also on the lookout for new drivers and retail assistants that can help bring joy to millions of families across the UK.

Paul Dhaliwal, chief commercial officer of Iceland Foods, continued: “With more than a million stairs to climb and hundreds of thousands of turkeys and festive party food to deliver, we’re looking for more people to join our team this Christmas. We need drivers up for the challenge of bringing joy and shopping bags to households up and down the country.”

More than 1,800 new driver and retail assistant positions are being offered on fixed-term contracts for 16 weeks over the busy seasonal period. The roles range from part-time to full-time, and successful applicants will immediately enjoy a 15% staff discount.

The frozen food retailer added that previous seasonal employees have secured permanent roles following the Christmas period. All roles must be filled by Friday 28th November.
