Two million wine lovers around the world have now discovered a new way to enjoy wine – one glass at a time.
Coravin, the brand behind the pioneering systems that allow users to pour wine without removing the cork, can today announce that it has sold its two-millionth system globally: a milestone that reflects a major shift in how we’re choosing to drink.
At a time when moderation is front of mind for many UK consumers, wine drinkers are increasingly adopting a “less but better” approach: drinking more thoughtfully, choosing higher quality bottles, and enjoying them over time rather than finishing them in one evening.
For over a decade, Coravin has made this possible, allowing users to pour a single glass while keeping the remaining wine perfectly preserved for weeks, months – even years.
A shift towards moderation and exploration
New independent global research commissioned by Coravin in 2025 shows that more than half of wine drinkers are ordering wine by the glass more often than they were two years ago. The top reasons?
- The freedom to explore different wines
- Access to more premium bottles
- Avoiding waste
- Drinking in moderation
The same trend is increasingly visible at home. In the UK, two-thirds of Coravin’s direct sales are to private consumers, with at-home purchases rising 31% in the past two years.
Rather than drinking a glass “just because it’s open”, consumers are stretching special bottles across several occasions: pairing different wines with different meals or simply enjoying a midweek glass without committing to the whole bottle.
Premium wines, without the pressure
Founder and inventor Greg Lambrecht created Coravin after facing a personal dilemma – wanting a single glass without spoiling the rest of the bottle.
“What began as a personal solution has become something much bigger,” he says. “Two million systems sold represents millions of moments where people felt free to enjoy a glass without the pressure of finishing the bottle.”
The freedom is also fuelling premiumisation. With wine prices rising and consumers drinking less overall, many are choosing to trade up, opting for better bottles and making them last.
From restaurants to living rooms
The UK was one of the earliest adopters when Coravin launched in 2013. Today, 75% of the UK’s Michelin-starred restaurants use Coravin to serve rare and fine wines by the glass – giving diners access to bottles that might otherwise only be available by the bottle.
But increasingly, the same thing is happening at home: curated wine nights, tasting flights with friends, or simply choosing a different wine to suit your mood.
To support this growing appetite for discovery, Coravin recently launched The Coravin Guide – the first global guide dedicated to wine-by-the-glass lists – with plans to expand beyond London into cities including Manchester, Bristol, Brighton and Edinburgh.
A cultural moment for wine
As consumer habits evolve, with greater interest in mindful drinking, quality over quantity, and experiential dining at home, Coravin’s growth reflects a broader cultural change in wine consumption. In fact, a glass of wine is poured with Coravin every second of every day.
Dave Krupinski, CEO of Coravin, comments: “Reaching two million systems sold isn’t just a company milestone. It shows how wine drinkers are changing the way they enjoy wine – choosing flexibility, exploration and moderation. We believe this is just the beginning.”
