Danone voluntarily reports on its UK Average Nutrient Profile Model score

In line with its support for mandatory healthy food sales reporting, Danone has voluntarily published its Average Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) score of -0.09 in the UK for 2025, reflecting the nutritional strength of its portfolio* and its commitment to transparency.
The company has long supported concrete actions that help to drive healthier food consumption and welcomed the Government’s commitment to introducing mandatory healthy food sales reporting for large food businesses in its 10-Year Health Plan for England.
In the UK, Danone has voluntarily reported on the healthiness of its portfolio since 2023 championing the value of open and accountable reporting. Danone’s new UK -0.09 Average NPM score builds on its existing voluntary health and nutrition reporting metrics.
The Nutrient Profiling Model (NPM) score underpins the Government’s High Fat, Salt and Sugar (HFSS) classification***, which scores foods equal or above 4 and drinks equal or above 1 as ‘less healthy’.
As a more granular measure of nutritional quality, an Average NPM score provides greater insight into the nutritional profile of the products beyond their HFSS status. As a company with a mission to bring health through food to as many people as possible, Danone UK views the nutritional quality of its portfolio as a critical measure of success.
The company also welcomed the commitment by a group of ‘early-movers’ within the Food and Drink Federation to publish healthy food sales data, based on the current NPM, during 2027. As a member already reporting on this metric, Danone sees it as a positive step forward in driving greater transparency and consistency in reporting across the industry, allowing evaluation of efforts to improve diets.
Richard Hall, vice president general secretary at Danone North Europe said: “At Danone, we believe transparency is essential to improving public health. At a time when the UK faces significant health challenges, greater openness helps create accountability, build trust and provide a clearer understanding of the role food businesses can play in supporting healthier diets and influencing positive health outcomes.
“For many years, we have chosen to report beyond mandatory requirements in UK and the voluntary publication of our Average Nutrient Profile Model score is an important next step in that journey, reflecting our support for the importance of measuring and sharing progress on health within the wider industry.
“Transparency must be matched by action, which is why we invest in reformulation and innovation, continuously strengthening our portfolio so that healthier choices become the easier choices for consumers.”
Through both its own actions and wider policy engagement, Danone continues to champion evidence-based measures that support healthier diets, improve public health and ultimately help create a healthier food environment.
