American Express now accepted at Home Bargains

Home BargainsAmerican Express and Home Bargains have signed a new agreement meaning Amex is now accepted as a payment method both in-person and online at one of the UK’s leading discount retailers.

Since being founded in 1976 in Liverpool, Home Bargains has grown to become one of the largest privately-owned companies in the UK, now operating over 650 stores nationwide, and employing more than 29,000 colleagues.

The discount store chain specialises in offering value pricing on high street brands including household goods, health and beauty, toys and food.

Promotion of the new acceptance agreement will include targeted email communications to Amex Cardmembers, digital marketing, and social media activity.

Home Bargains joins a record number of businesses in the UK – including every major supermarket chain, most high street retailers and more small businesses than ever before – that recognise the value of welcoming Amex Cardmembers – who are typically higher spending than other credit card users.

Dan Edelman, UK general manager, merchant services at American Express, said: “We are committed to ensuring our Cardmembers can use their Card wherever they live, work and travel. We’re delighted that American Express is now accepted by Home Bargains, one of the UK’s fastest-growing retailers. This agreement reinforces our strong merchant coverage nationwide, which has tripled since 2021.”

Phil Hoad, group finance director at Home Bargains, said: “We’re delighted to now accept American Express both in our stores and online, giving customers even more choice and convenience when shopping with Home Bargains. We know many of our customers value the flexibility that American Express provides, and we’re pleased to make it easier for them to pay in the way that suits them best while continuing to offer the top brands at bottom prices they’re used to.”

American Express provides Cardmembers with a range of benefits including cashback, Membership Rewards® points, exclusive Amex Offers from national brands, and more. In the UK, American Express is accepted at more places than ever before, meaning there is a greater choice of businesses where Cardmembers can earn rewards when paying with Amex.

In the UK since 2021, the number of locations accepting American Express has tripled, including more UK small businesses than ever before. American Express Cards are accepted at over 170 million merchant locations worldwide as of year-end 2025.2
