UK momentum continues for American Express with more locations than ever before accepting Amex payments

Further high-profile merchants across a range of sectors have joined the American Express network, meaning more locations in the UK than ever before now accept American Express Card payments.

These latest signings continue to power the company’s growth momentum, joining a record number of businesses that see the value of accepting Amex, including every major supermarket chain and high street brands such as B&M and Timpson. Over the past three years, the number of places in the UK where Cardmembers can use their Amex Card has grown by 46%.1

In the retail sector, American Express has signed online and in-store acceptance agreements with sporting goods retailer Decathlon, which operates 46 stores nationwide, along with footwear brand Footasylum which has 65 shops. Omnichannel trade retailer Screwfix is now accepting Amex payments online, with in-store acceptance to follow next year.

Other notable signings in recent months include nationwide grocery chain Farmfoods, the UK’s largest regional airline Loganair, holiday company Neilson Active Holidays and coffee house chain Coffee#1.

The addition of these merchants complements new deals that American Express has this year signed with existing payment partners, including the likes of Dojo and Worldpay. These strategic agreements will help small businesses accept American Express payments seamlessly with one unified contract, offering an improved experience.

Dan Edelman, general manager, UK Merchant Services at American Express, said: “Our positive momentum is fueled by a commitment to ensuring our Cardmembers can use their Amex Card at more of the places they want to shop. Because we have a high value offer, there are more businesses on our network than ever, and we remain focused on making it simpler for all sizes of merchants to welcome the spending power of Amex Cardmembers.”

Globally, Amex acceptance now spans more than 89 million locations, marking a more than threefold increase in international acceptance since 2017.
