AldiAldi is making a change to its popular Too Good To Go (TGTG) service this Christmas, giving shoppers even more flexibility to pick up discounted products and reduce food waste.

From Friday 19th December to Wednesday 24th December, customers will be able to reserve a TGTG ‘Surprise Bag’ up to five days in advance, rather than the usual 24 hours. The festive change is designed to give customers more choice and convenience during one of the busiest periods of the year.

The ‘Surprise Bags’ cost £3.30 each and contain at least £10 worth of food that is approaching its sell-by or use-by date, offering shoppers great value while helping to prevent perfectly good food from going to waste.

To date, Aldi has sold 1.5m Too Good To Go bags, stopping countless products going to waste, and in turn supporting communities to access discounted goods.

The retailer expects to sell more than 67,000 Too Good To Go bags throughout December – including an estimated 10,000 on Christmas Eve alone – as record numbers of shoppers look to snap up festive bargains and cut food waste.

Aldi is also extending the early-reservation window for its New Year’s Eve Surprise Bags, which shoppers can secure via the app from Wednesday 17th December to Wednesday 31st December. These bags offer another opportunity to pick up reduced-price products over the holiday season, while helping to cut food waste.

Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: “This Christmas we’re giving greater access to our Too Good To Go bags by letting customers secure them earlier than ever before. It’s a simple way to pick up even lower priced items at Aldi, while cutting food waste.

“We’re proud of this important partnership as part of our commitment to becoming a more sustainable business and seeing how people it has become with customers and the momentum its gaining is incredible.”

A Too Good To Go spokesperson said: “We’re thrilled that Aldi is giving their customers even more flexibility to access Too Good To Go Surprise Bags this festive season.

“By allowing reservations up to five days in advance, shoppers can enjoy the convenience of planning ahead while helping to prevent perfectly good food from going to waste.

“Every Surprise Bag purchased – simply by downloading the Too Good To Go app, is a practical way to reduce food waste, save money, and make a positive impact on local communities.”

In addition to its Too Good To Go partnership, Aldi’s UK stores donate surplus food to local causes all year round via its successful partnership with Neighbourly. Over the upcoming festive period, Britain’s fourth largest supermarket expects to donate one million meals to local charities and foodbanks across the UK.
