The UK’s cheapest supermarket, Aldi, has topped up its awards cabinet with a new highly prestigious accolade, as its Còmhla Handcrafted Scottish Gin is revealed as the World’s Best Classic Gin at the World Gin Awards 2025.
Beating out the competition from over 20 countries, including the USA, Germany, and China, the Scottish-made London Dry gin impressed the expert judging panel with its refined flavour profile and exceptional quality.
Retailing at just £19.99 for a 70cl bottle, Aldi’s Còmhla Handcrafted Scottish Gin has once again proven premium quality does not have to be accompanied by a high price tag.
Crafted in small batches, Còmhla is a classic London Dry gin featuring a well-balanced blend of juniper, coriander, and citrus, rounded off with a hint of bitterness. Judges at the World Gin Awards praised it as both “elegant” and “beautifully balanced”, following a rigorous blind tasting of hundreds of entries from across the globe.
The recent accolade is the latest in a series of awards for Còmhla. Since launching in Aldi in 2023, it has picked up several prestigious prizes, including most recently being awarded Gold and Best in Country at The World Drink Awards 2025.
Graham Nicolson, group buying director at Aldi Scotland, said: “We have had an incredible response for Còmhla both from our loyal customers and the wider drinks industry. To be named the Best Classic Gin in the world is the ultimate honour.
“Scotland may be small, but we consistently punch above our weight on the world food and drink stage. To be able to compete at such as high standard and to win, is testament to the craftsmanship and skill of our homegrown suppliers, and to the strength of the longstanding partnerships we have formed with them.”
