Amazon Second Chance Deal Days are back, giving customers even greater savings than usual on high-quality returned and refurbished products from 1 to 10 September. Tens of thousands of items including personal tech, kitchen, gaming and home improvement products will be on offer with savings of up to 50% compared to the recommended retail price (RRP) of equivalent new products. Amazon offers over 30 million returned and refurbished items across nearly all product categories, helping UK customers save money and keep products in use longer.
“Our latest investment of around £3 billion in our returns operations across Europe is giving more returned products a second chance,” said Rory Feldman, European Director of Returns and Recommerce at Amazon. “Last year, UK customers saved £95 million shopping second-hand on Amazon, and demand keeps growing with second-hand sales across Europe exceeding £1.7 billion. Second Chance Deal Days give customers even greater savings, with every product rigorously inspected by our trained specialists.”
Customers shopping for quality returned and refurbished items from Amazon in Europe already save an average of 20% compared to the equivalent new products. During Second Chance Deal Days, they can enjoy even bigger savings with up to 50% off ‘good condition’ products from brands including Apple, Sony, Samsung, Beats, and LEGO versus the recommended retail price of the same product new. In the UK, where Computing, Kitchen, Wireless, and Home Improvement products are among the top-selling categories, customers can also shop authentic pre-loved bags and accessories from Amazon Luxury seller Luxclusif for the first time – with a further 15% off already-discounted prices during the event.
Fewer returns, more second chances
Amazon builds tools to help customers find the right product for the first time. AI-powered review summaries and detailed product information help customers choose with confidence. Size recommendation technology means more than 90% of customers who buy the recommended size are satisfied with their purchase. Amazon also flags products with high return rates, alerting shoppers to check descriptions and reviews before buying.
When returns do happen, the priority is to keep products in use. Amazon inspects all customer returns, testing, cleaning and repairing them where necessary. Items in perfect condition go back on sale as new. The rest are sold at a discount, with larger savings on ‘used’ condition versus ‘like new’. Amazon donates products that are not suitable for resale but are still in good, usable condition to charity partners across Europe, giving them a second life with families and communities who need them. In 2025, Amazon and its selling partners donated over 35 million items across Europe, including many returns.
Second chance shopping on Amazon
Amazon resells used, returned, and refurbished items through two main programmes. Both are backed by Amazon’s customer service and return policies:
- Amazon Resale offers used and open-box products at discounted prices. These items go through a thorough inspection and are listed with condition descriptions – from “Like New” to “Acceptable” – so customers can make an informed decision at a price that reflects the condition.
- Amazon Renewed offers refurbished products sold by Amazon’s qualified selling partners. Each product is professionally inspected, cleaned and tested, before being offered at competitive prices.
Amazon has offered pre-owned products for over 20 years in Europe, beginning with third-party sellers in the UK and Germany in 2002. Since then, the company has continued to invest in its second chance offering, selling returned and open-box products since 2009 and introducing professionally refurbished products in 2014. Today, second-hand shopping on Amazon offers customers a wide selection, great value, and the convenience customers expect from Amazon.
