Boots’ new in-person weight-loss clinics roll out in 17 UK stores

Boots has launched a pilot to provide a private weight loss treatment service in 17 stores across the UK*, offering customers the option to access in-person advice and treatment for weight loss on their high-street.

The service will include an appointment in a private consultation room with a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber who has specialist training to prescribe medicines for weight loss. During the consultation, the Pharmacist will ask the customer a series of questions to get a full picture of their health and medical history to assess whether they are eligible for the treatment. The Pharmacist will also conduct weight, height and BMI checks.

If customers meet eligibility criteria for the service, the Pharmacist can provide access to treatment. Following the initial consultation, additional appointments will be booked in to review the treatment.

The private in-store weight loss treatment service bolsters the existing weight loss support and expertise offered by Boots digitally through Boots Online Doctor. This means Boots can offer medicated weight loss support digitally and in person, empowering customers to choose the option that works best for them.

Building on its extensive digital and clinical capabilities, Boots will signpost its in-store customers to the wide range of wrap-around resources on its Boots Online Doctor Platform, which includes a 10-week free weight loss programme promoting sustainable lifestyle and behavioural changes, access to an app to track progress** and a free 12-month aftercare programme*** for customers who have stopped medication. Customers will also have access to in-store pharmacists for any questions or concerns they may have. The 10-week free weight loss programme is available for free to anyone, whether they are accessing treatment from Boots or not.

Jamie Kerruish, chief healthcare officer at Boots, said: “We know that people have different preferences for how they access healthcare services – some seeking online support and some wanting in person conversations with their local practitioner. The launch of our in-store weight loss treatment service alongside our digital offer delivered through Boots Online Doctor means we can now deliver convenient care to people both online or in person.

“Our weight loss treatment services are for anyone whose lives are affected by obesity. For people who are overweight or living with obesity, it can be hard to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. Weight loss treatment combined with 360 support to make lifestyle and behavioural changes, can be a powerful tool in helping people manage their weight and at Boots we are here for every step of our customers’ weight loss journeys.”

The in-store service offers access to the same treatment support as the Boots Online Doctor service at the same standard prices per dose. The service is available to book online at boots.com or on a walk-in basis at participating stores and subject to Pharmacist Independent Prescriber availability.

Boots is the UK’s leading health, wellness and beauty retailer and the leading provider of healthcare on the high street. Its in-store weight loss treatment service is the latest addition to its expanding range of over 150 healthcare services, which are delivered on behalf of the NHS as well as privately.

*Eligibility criteria and charges apply. In selected pharmacies, subject to availability. Supply of treatment is subject to a suitability assessment. Subject to availability and store opening hours. Charges may apply. Stores include: Boots Nottingham Victoria Centre, Boots Cardiff Queen Street, Boots Durham Market Place, Boots Belfast Donegal Place, Boots Edinburgh Princes Street, Boots Newcastle Sidgate, Boots St Albans St Peters Street, Boots London Liverpool Steet Station, Boots Leicester Fosse Park, Boots Brighton North Street, Boots London Piccadilly Circus, Boots Dartford Blue Water, Boots Altrincham Stamford Quarter, Boots Chester Le Street, Boots Middlesborough Nunthorpe, Boots Bath Southgate Centre, Boots Lisburn Sprucefield.

**The new app helps customers track weight and much more. Download from Apple and Google Play app stores.

***Available to customers who’ve used the Boots Online Doctor Weight Loss Treatment service for at least 6 consecutive months. The aftercare programme will come into effect 2 months after your final month of treatment and will be available for 12 months thereafter.
