Co op Wholesale resets the Nisa Symbol Group for a new retail era

Co‑op Wholesale has unveiled a major new chapter in the Nisa brand’s history – a fully modernised symbol group proposition that resets and elevates the Nisa experience for independent retailers.

This complete reset of the Nisa symbol group, which is available to retailers who adopt the new terms and conditions, removes the complexity and costs that have historically held retailers back. The introduction of a powerful suite of tools designed for modern retail, will equip retailers to accelerate growth, protect margins and win in an increasingly tough market.

A stronger, simpler and more competitive offer for retailers adopting the new Nisa symbol group proposition and terms includes:

  • Removal of standard membership fees, delivery charges and surcharges – sweeping away outdated costs and complexity, giving retailers a cleaner, stronger, simpler commercial model.
  • Enhanced commercial benefits with rebate opportunities of up to 6%
  • A fresh, modern fascia identity that elevates Nisa’s presence on the high street and reflects the energy of a reimagined symbol group.
  • Access to the full Co‑op range proposition made up of 2,400 Co-op own brand products, bringing retailers breadth, quality and consistency trusted by shoppers across the UK.
  • Enhanced digital media screen technology in store, delivering dynamic mission-based content, promotions and supplier programmes that drive real time sales
  • Access to modern POS, clearer navigation and a consistent brand presence that elevates the shopper experience.
  • A strengthened, future ready ‘more-for-more’ partnership model built around transparency, simplicity and retailer success.

Katie Secretan, managing director, Co‑op Wholesale, said: “This is a landmark moment for Nisa and our independent partners as we launch a fully modernised symbol group proposition that removes friction, takes away unnecessary charges and gives retailers more of what they need to thrive. This is a proposition built for growth, built for today’s shopper and built to help retailers win.”

The first store featuring the new modernised fascia and full proposition goes live today at Nisa Dallam in Warrington, Cheshire, which has been shortlisted in the upcoming Convenience Awards for Community Retailer of the Year, marks the start of an ambitious roll‑out shaped by real world testing and retailer feedback.

Mike Sohal, Nisa retailer and store owner of Nisa Dallam said: “For many independent retailers, particularly in the last quarter, it’s been a bit quiet and we knew we needed to do something about it. So this all came at the perfect time for us. But it’s not just about the fascia, it’s about doing business as simply as we can, and that’s the key benefit of what Co-op Wholesale has done for its independent retailers. This is alongside the space we’ve made available to introduce stronger ranges within the key missions for us, such as ISB, chilled and frozen and I’m really hopeful that we will see it positively impact sales.

“Community is also key for us, and our shoppers are our community. What MADL does, is it really help us shine in the local community and the work that we do. Having the stronger presence of MADL in the store as part of this refit, helps my shoppers understand how by shopping with us, they can help get vital funding back into their community, so we can all thrive.”

Nisa’s long‑standing charity, Making a Difference Locally (MADL), also sees a refresh with a bolder identity, strengthening its visibility and continuing its mission to support local causes. MADL remains on track to hit a total of £20m raised, by this year, reinforcing its role as a powerful differentiator for Nisa retailers.
