Connemara, one of Ireland’s only peated single malt whiskeys, has announced the launch of Connemara Gold, a new lightly peated expression crafted to introduce whiskey drinkers to the world of smoky Irish expressions.
With an increasing number of blended whiskey fans across Europe exploring Irish single malts, Connemara Gold combines the character and craft of the distillery’s range with a more accessible flavour profile and an entry-level price point.
Inspired by the 18th century tradition of drying malting barley over peat fires, Connemara has long stood apart from other Irish distilleries. While most are known for triple-distilled expressions, Connemara double distils its single malt, delivering a richer, more expressive flavour profile. Connemara Gold extends that legacy. The spirit has been matured in ex-bourbon casks, creating a smooth and creamy taste, with notes of pear, peach, cereal and a whisper of smoke.
Bottled at 40% ABV, Connemara Gold is designed for a range of drinking occasions — enjoyed neat, over ice, in a highball, or as the base of an easy-to-make whiskey cocktail.
Sarah Dowling, senior blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, comments: “Connemara Gold offers an extremely balanced drinking experience. The fruity sweetness and creamy notes sit alongside a gentle whisper of smoke that builds in flavour and intensity. This expression is unmistakably Connemara, but even more approachable for newer drinkers exploring peated whiskey for the first time.”
Kirsteen Beeston, senior global marketing director, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, says: “Drinkers around the world are increasingly curious about Irish single malts. They want something with more character than a blend, but they don’t necessarily want to begin with the most intense smoky flavour. Connemara Gold is the answer, it’s expertly crafted and offers exceptional value.”
Priced at €23.50 RSP, Connemara Gold will be available in France from August 2026, with additional European markets rolling out later in the year.
