Desi Daru Vodka are delighted to announce its certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing movement of companies that are reinventing business for the benefit of all people and our shared planet. Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, the achievement demonstrates that Desi Daru meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value.
The news comes as the ongoing climate crisis and widening social inequality continue to pose urgent challenges to the economy. B Corp Certification assesses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers impact areas related to practices around governance, workers, community, the environment and customers. The certification process is rigorous, with companies required to provide evidence on performance while legally embedding their commitment to purpose as well as profit in their company articles.
Desi Daru is now part of a growing community of over 10,000 businesses globally that have certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK is the largest and fastest growing in the world, with over 2,500 companies spanning a range of different industries and sizes.
Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, shared: “We are delighted to welcome Desi Daru Vodka to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how business operates and believe
business really can be a force for good. We know that Desi Daru is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
The B Corp assessment highlighted Desi Daru’s strong practices in four key areas: community, environment, workers and governance. Across community Desi Daru clearly demonstrated active engagement in impact-led initiatives including the brand’s One Sip, One Day campaign which supports clean drinking water initiatives in India through every bottle sold. For the environment criteria they demonstrated commitments to reducing their carbon impact as well as improving sustainable sourcing. Their fair practices around inclusion, employee wellbeing and workplace equity allowed them to score highly in the Workers section. And their Governance score reflected their transparent, accountable operations.
Mohit Singh, founder of Desi Daru shared, “Becoming a B Corp is a milestone that reflects Desi Daru’s philosophy: to create a world-class product while respecting people and the planet. Certification is not the finish line, but part of our ongoing journey to prove that premium spirits can be crafted in a way that’s responsible, transparent, and sustainable.”
Looking ahead, Desi Daru has committed to lowering their carbon impact through greater use of renewable energy; expanding their community involvement with local agricultural partners; and improving their B Impact score through ongoing investment in its social and environmental mission.
