Halfords encourages motorists to prep early as stores close for Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

HalfordsHalfords has announced that all its retail stores will be closed on Boxing Day (26 December) and New Year’s Day (1 January), giving colleagues across the UK a well-earned chance to rest and spend time with loved ones.

The move follows a busy year for the motoring and cycling retailer and reflects Halfords’ commitment to supporting colleague wellbeing and work-life balance, while continuing to help customers get where they need to go during the festive period.

Henry Birch, chief executive oOfficer at Halfords, said: “Our colleagues go above and beyond for customers all year round, often working long hours to keep the nation moving. It’s important that we recognise that effort and give everyone the chance to switch off and spend quality time with family and friends. Closing our stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day is a small but meaningful way to say thank you and ensure our teams come back refreshed for the year ahead.”

While stores will be closed for those two days, Halfords is reminding motorists to plan ahead for winter journeys and make sure their vehicles are ready for the road.

Halfords’ top tips for festive driving:

  1. Check your tyres – ensure tread depth and pressure are winter-ready.
  2. Test your battery – cold weather is the top cause of breakdowns.
  3. Top up screenwash and antifreeze – visibility and engine protection are key.
  4. Book a free 10-point winter check – available at Halfords Autocentres and Halfords Mobile Expert.

Halfords stores will be open as usual on all other days throughout the festive season to help customers with winter car care, bike servicing, and last-minute motoring must-haves.
