How do online slots differ from retail slots?

online slotsIf you’re considering making the switch from physical slot machines to online casino slot games, you might be wondering what the biggest differences are between the two. Though they share several similarities, it’s safe to say these are outnumbered by the differences.

Both kinds of slots offer excitement and good game variety, but when it comes to payout speed or convenience, that’s when the differences start to truly emerge. Here are the core distinctions between online and physical slots:

Online slots are more transparent

Arguably the biggest difference between the two is that online casinos and online slots tend to be a lot more transparent than their real-life, retail counterparts. Finding out information about a slot machine’s volatility and RTP is much easier online than in person.

Many online casinos publicly list the relevant stats of their slots on their websites, or they can be discovered through online reviews. Platforms like JohnSlots are good examples of collections of online casinos and slots, with in-depth reviews and analyses of all the relevant details.

Not only that, but many online casinos will allow you to peruse their terms and conditions page so you can read their transparency clauses. They will sometimes also have a comprehensive FAQ section that goes into great detail.

Online slots are more likely to be fair

As hard as this might be to believe for some, online casino slots do tend to be fairer than their physical counterparts. Part of this is due to the transparency mentioned above, but it mainly has to do with licensing. The only trustworthy casinos online are those that earned a license, usually by following the law of their respective country and by proving they meet the standards of various gambling regulations.

This doesn’t mean that switching from retail to online slots will magically provide you with an advantage over the house. As the RTP of any online slots game will show you, the house still has the edge. Still, it’s comforting knowing that most online slots are engaging in reasonable and fair conduct.

Online slots can be played on the go

One of the main reasons why online casinos and online slots have taken off so much over the past few years isn’t just that they can be played at home, but that they can be played anywhere. The convenience of installing an online casino app onto a smartphone or tablet and being able to play slots anywhere, anytime was groundbreaking. It has fundamentally changed the gambling world.

Thanks to the improving technology involved in these sites and apps, online slots have become faster and better optimized, and are paired with sleek menus and UIs. Major gaming brands and software developers known for games that were originally only available at retail locations are now commonly found at major online casinos. There’s no stopping this revolution.

Online slots provide longer sessions

Many fans of online slots have reported that they tend to spend more time playing online than at retail locations. Depending on just how much enjoyment you get from slots, this can be seen as a very good thing. It ultimately means that even with the same budget, it will take you longer to play through the same amount and end up with the same result.

If this isn’t seen as a positive to you, keep in mind that many slots have an autoplay feature that not only speeds things up but allows you to focus on something else. With the gambling occurring as a secondary activity, it allows you to passively engage with it while you actively engage with something else.

Retail slots can have immersive environments

Though there are some online slots and online casinos that have fantastic themes, VR capabilities and gorgeous 3D graphics, finding them can be a bit tough. Meanwhile, playing retail slots at a luxury casino – especially one with unique attractions – is an unbeatable experience that is very difficult to replicate online.

Part of the fun of slots gambling is the physicality of pulling the lever or punching the button, the unique sounds of the slots machine and the loud but celebratory noises they make when a jackpot is hit. Plus, if you have the cash and the opportunity, some casinos are absolutely fabulous, thanks to high-end furniture, great service and amazing drinks.

Keep in mind that depending on your location, you may have to deal with a lot of noise and smoke when heading off to retail slots locations. Whether this is something you consider an essential part of the atmosphere or not depends entirely on your own personal tastes.

Retail slots have instant payouts

Perhaps the worst thing about online slots is that you can’t get your money instantly. Even the fastest payouts at online slots will have you waiting several hours, usually closer to an entire day.

But should you get any cash playing a retail slot, you’ll receive your money right on the spot – literally! As much as online slots have earned a reputation for their convenience, they can’t beat the benefit of instant winnings. So at least there’s that.
