InstaVolt joins National Crime Partnership to combat EV cable theft

InstaVoltAs cable thefts from electric vehicle charging sites surge across the UK, InstaVolt has joined the National Infrastructure Crime Reduction Partnership (NICRP) in a move its CEO says highlights the need for tougher sentencing and greater protection of critical infrastructure.

A strategic initiative bringing together industry leaders and law enforcement, the NICRP is a united front against crime that affects essential services such as railways, utilities, broadband networks and EV charging sites.

InstaVolt’s new membership comes in response to the growing threat of cable thefts across charging points, criminal acts that damage vital EV infrastructure, disrupt driver journeys and   the UK’s transition to electric mobility.

The NICRP works closely with organisations including the British Transport Police, the Home Office, Virgin Media and BT, sharing intelligence and best practices to counter metal and cable theft.

InstaVolt is the latest major Charge Point Operator to lend its weight to the initiative, having seen the direct impact of theft at a number of its UK charging sites.

Delvin Lane, InstaVolt CEO, said: “EV charging is critical infrastructure and cable thefts should be treated more seriously. These thefts don’t just damage equipment; they disrupt drivers, create uncertainty around public charging, and ultimately hinder the UK’s progress toward a more sustainable transport system.

“While we wish there was no need for initiatives like the NICRP, we share its dedication to reducing crime and stand alongside others committed to tackling cable theft and protecting our vital infrastructure.

“Our membership gives us access to a shared pool of intelligence, expert advice and industry alerts so we can protect our infrastructure and continue delivering a convenient and quick charging experience for the UK’s EV drivers.”

InstaVolt is the leading public network of ultra rapid EV chargers in the UK. All chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy and are known for their industry-leading reliability and ease of use.

As the company continues to grow, with plans to install 11,000 chargers in the UK and Ireland by 2030, it is placing equal emphasis on building a resilient and protected network, starting with steps such as its NICRP membership
