JENKI is set to open its latest bar at Battersea Power Station in January 2026, bringing freshly whisked matcha into one of London’s most iconic landmarks. The new space will be JENKI’s most design-led location to date, built around the ritual, precision and calm of matcha prepared fresh to order.
Designed by London-based architecture firm Rain Wu, the interior responds thoughtfully to the Power Station’s industrial heritage. A contemporary interpretation of Art Deco underpins the space, with clean, streamlined forms balanced by classic Japanese wood panelling that introduces warmth and tactility. Natural materials, considered detailing and a restrained palette create a quiet counterpoint to the scale and strength of the surrounding architecture.
At the heart of the bar sits a striking, tiered sky-blue counter, a sculptural nod to the machine-age modernity of Battersea Power Station’s original design. Both functional and expressive, it frames the preparation of matcha at the bar, keeping craft, flavour and experience firmly in focus.
The result is a space that feels both modern and grounded, a considered addition to Battersea Power Station that celebrates place, process and the beauty of freshly whisked matcha.
“Architecture, design and ritual work hand in hand to embody the matcha experience. At the heart of the store, the bar showcases freshly whisked matcha, celebrating both the drink’s ritualistic origins and its modern resurgence,” said a spokesperson from Rain Wu, architecture and design studio.
The space incorporates Smile Plastics, a UK-based sustainable material chosen for its resemblance to classic Art Deco terrazzo and marble. The result feels both considered and contemporary, an innovative material choice that reflects JENKI’s commitment to sustainability while sitting comfortably within the site’s modern interpretation of tradition. Every element has been carefully resolved to honour one of London’s most iconic landmarks, re-reading its architectural history through a fresh, design-led lens.
An elevated retail shelf presents a curated edit of JENKI matcha and accessories, including the JENKI x KINTO water bottle and tote bags. Each piece has been selected to complement the space and will be available exclusively at the Battersea Power Station location, in limited quantities.
JENKI Battersea will open 20th January 2026.
