Lee Tiernan is making his return to Canonbury Road this October. Kicking off the return to his celebrated restaurant site ahead of a brand new concept yet to be announced, the acclaimed chef behind Black Axe Mangal is teaming up with Kerrygold to create The Kerrygold x Lee Tiernan, Kerrygold Cream Cheese Sandwich Shop for two days only.
Taking over 156 Canonbury Road, the former home of Black Axe Mangal, the exclusive collaboration marks the beginning of Lee’s return to his restaurant space. The pop-up will give fans the chance to see him back behind the counter, bringing back much-loved big flavours alongside three completely new creations developed exclusively for Kerrygold.
And, in true Lee Tiernan style, these aren’t your average sandwiches.
Created to celebrate the nationwide launch of Kerrygold Cream Cheese, the menu brings together Lee’s unmistakable approach to food with ingredients and flavours inspired by Ireland. Think thick cut char siu bacon piled onto sourdough, smoked cod roe and seaweed on a jet black squid ink loaf, and a vegetarian mushroom mapo tofu bagel loaded with scallion cream cheese.
For two days only, fans will be able to try:
Mushroom mapo, Scallion Kerrygold Cream Cheese, coriander and pickles on a Papos plain bagel
Creamy, spicy, tangy and crunchy in equal measure, Lee’s vegetarian creation pairs mushroom mapo tofu with a scallion laden Kerrygold Cream Cheese inspired by West Cork, finished with coriander and sharp pickles.
Lee describes it as “fun, interesting and not something you’ll see all too often.”
Char siu Irish bacon, Kerrygold Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese, lettuce and roasted tomato on Dusty Knuckle sourdough
Lee’s ultimate take on the BLT gives thick cut bacon the full treatment with a sweet, fragrant char siu cure, before layering it with Kerrygold Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese, lettuce and roasted tomato on sourdough. A big, bold, gloriously messy take on a classic sarnie.
Smoked cod roe and wild Irish seaweed cream cheese, lemon zest, trout caviar and cress on a BAM squid ink bread
Perhaps the most unmistakably Lee of the three, this dramatic black sandwich takes inspiration from his iconic Squid Ink Flatbread. Smoked cod roe and seaweed are folded through Kerrygold Cream Cheese before being layered with lemon zest, trout caviar and mustard cress on a BAM squid ink tin loaf.
The Kerrygold Cream Cheese Sandwich Shop will open at 156 Canonbury Road on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th October, kicking off Lee’s return to the address so closely associated with his cooking and giving fans an exclusive chance to sample his revived signature flavours and latest creations before the launch of his new concept.
And there’s another reason to get there early: every sandwich is on Kerrygold.
A total of 300 complimentary sandwiches will be served each day, with 100 of each creation available on a first come, first served basis.
On the collaboration, Lee Tiernan said: “Kerrygold has always been part of my food story and, for this collaboration, I wanted to create a range of sandwiches that recognises the best of Irish produce, complementing Kerrygold Cream Cheese with big, bold and unexpected flavour combinations you might not taste every day. I can’t wait to get behind the counter and share these sandwiches with everyone.”
Lucy Hay, senior brand manager at Kerrygold, added: “Kerrygold has always been synonymous with quality and great taste, so Lee was the perfect person to show just what our new Cream Cheese range can do. We knew he wouldn’t play it safe, and these sandwiches are everything we hoped they would be: bold, surprising and absolutely delicious.
“We’re particularly excited to be launching our new Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese alongside the Original, giving people even more ways to add a touch of Irish gold to their meals. Bringing the collaboration to a space with such a connection to Lee makes it even more special, and we can’t wait for people to come down and try what he’s created.”
The Kerrygold x Lee Tiernan Sandwich Shop will be open from 12pm–4pm on Friday 23rd October and 10am–2pm on Saturday 24th October at 156 Canonbury Road, London.
There are no reservations or advance bookings. Sandwiches are limited to one per person and will be served on a first come, first served basis while stocks last.
