LidlFor the first time ever, Lidl is giving customers the chance to vote for charities to receive funding. From Thursday 24th September, via the Lidl Plus app, customers can directly allocate £500,000 to local causes.

Customers can easily participate by clicking a dedicated banner at the top of the Lidl Plus app home page, selecting their region, and casting their vote for one of five local causes. These five causes have been shortlisted based on the specific deprivation needs of each area.

To ensure every participating charity benefits, all five featured causes in each region will receive a donation based on the final customer vote rankings. The first-place cause will receive £10,000, followed by £5,000 for second, £3,000 for third, and £1,000 each for fourth and fifth place. Following the two-week voting period, the Lidl Plus app will showcase the final donation results and celebrate the winning causes in each community.

Louise Weise, chief customer officer at Lidl GB, said: “For the first time, Lidl is putting the power of giving directly into the hands of our customers, offering a simple way to support the local causes that matter most to them. By working closely with Neighbourly to identify local needs, we are ensuring this £500,000 fund makes a targeted, meaningful difference to communities across the country, building on the £2.8 million in community investment Lidl has donated since 2020.”

Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Lidl GB on this innovative customer voting campaign. Local charities are facing unprecedented demand, and Lidl’s regional approach ensures that funding is directed precisely where it is needed most, based on localised insights and deprivation data. By vetting and supporting these incredible local causes, we are proud to help Lidl customers make an immediate, positive impact right on their doorsteps.”

All chosen charities have been identified using the Neighbourly Pulse tool. As the first retailer to adopt it, Lidl GB is using Pulse to help better understand local community need and inform how it directs support through its localised giving partnership with Neighbourly. Local charities can sign up to Neighbourly to be considered for surplus food donations and future grants1.
