Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, will uncork its newest branch in Trowbridge next week as the retailer doubles down on its bricks and mortar expansion plans.
Majestic has taken on Units 1 and 2 of the Old Town Bridge Garage on Wicker Hill, transforming one of the oldest car showrooms in the UK into a 4,145 sq ft wine emporium. The prime location in the heart of the town is perfectly positioned just a stone’s throw from the banks of the River Biss, The Shires Shopping Centre and a host of popular bars, restaurants and coffee shops.
The new store will open for business on Thursday 30th July, with all shoppers on opening day invited to toast the occasion with a free glass of Moët & Chandon Brut or Veuve Clicquot Rosé. Majestic Trowbridge will stock the retailer’s full range of more than 1,000 high-quality wines – including a dedicated area for 72 Fine Wines – as well as the retailer’s growing proposition of beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, soft drinks, snacks and gifts.
Majestic is bringing its market-leading and award-winning service proposition to Trowbridge, where its experienced and highly qualified expert colleagues will host free wine tastings seven days a week. Customers will have the opportunity to try a selection of wines before they buy at the in-store Tasting Counter, and get expert advice from the Majestic team, all of whom are trained through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Shoppers will also be able to benefit from Majestic’s unparalleled range of complementary services including free glass hire, bespoke wedding tastings, and the retailer’s unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’, which allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in exchange for a bottle of equivalent value.
Online shoppers can order from Majestic’s full range through its e-commerce website for free next-day delivery via the store’s dedicated electric van. Customers making their purchases online can also use Majestic’s highly popular ‘Shop Local’ proposition, which allows users to order from the stock available at the Trowbridge store, in real-time, for home delivery or click and collect within as little as four hours.
The new store will also support Majestic’s rapidly growing B2B division, Majestic Commercial, supplying wines to gastropubs, bars and restaurants in Wiltshire. Majestic Commercial, which was crowned On-Trade Supplier of the Year at the Drinks Business Awards 2024, currently partners with more than 4,200 hospitality venues across the UK, including the likes of Manchester City Football Club, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts and Marylebone Cricket Club’s iconic Lord’s cricket ground.
The Trowbridge launch will mark Majestic’s first new store opening of its 2026/27 financial year, with at least four more new sites in the pipeline this year. Its continued investment in growth underscores the renewed focus Majestic has placed on experiential retail and hospitality offerings since its split from Naked Wines plc and subsequent acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in December 2019. Since then, following the reintroduction of former management and with the backing of its investor, Majestic has returned to growth and stability, opening more than 25 new shops and more than quadrupling sales in its Majestic Commercial business.
Elizabeth Newman, managing director of Majestic Retail, said: “Trowbridge is a location we’ve had our eye on for some time as part of our expansion plans, so we are delighted to be bringing our award-winning wines and expertise to the town. We know there are thousands of discerning wine drinkers in the local community – many of whom already shop with us in Bath, Devizes, Chippenham or online – and our new store will make it even more convenient for them to shop with us. We’re really looking forward to serving them in Trowbridge and helping thousands of new customers discover quality wines, beers and spirits they will love.”
