METROCENTRE Gateshead has announced the opening of the popular variety store, Flying Tiger Copenhagen.

The Danish retailer, which stocks everything from home accessories and party decorations to stationery and sunglasses, currently operates almost 1,000 stores across 25 different countries and will continue its expansion to the North East this Autumn.

The new 3,600sq ft store will be situated on the ground floor of the Green Mall opposite Boots.

This exciting new letting follows a raft of recent store openings at Metrocentre, including Hobbs, Rowen Homes, Moda in Pelle, Skopes and most recently Apricot.

Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, Senior Asset Manager for Metrocentre, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the arrival of Flying Tiger Copenhagen to Metrocentre later this year. The store will join us at a very exciting time, as we’ll also be opening the doors to several new flagships stores for the likes of Zara, Flannels and Sports Direct.

“With its unique and varied product offering, and the only Flying Tiger in the region, we’re confident it will be popular with our shoppers.”

Mike Burke MD of Flying Tiger Copenhagen said: ”Opening a store back in the Northeast was always a priority for us and Metrocentre is the perfect location. Our customers have asked us to return to the northeast since we moved out of the city centre, we listened and have found the right location. Our focus is now on a number of key shopping centres in Manchester, London and Liverpool’’.
