Mezcal Reina, a Mexican women-founded mezcal house, makes its formal UK debut with the release of its full portfolio of luxury sipping mezcals. Rooted in heritage, traditional craft and a commitment to sustainable production, the range features four premium, small batch mezcal expressions, inviting a new generation of discerning drinkers to experience the refined art of savouring mezcal as a symbol of modern luxury.
Founded in 2017 by friends Susana Franyutti and Monica Torroella, Mezcal Reina was born from a desire to bring the true spirit of Mexico’s craft and soul to the world. As Mexican-born women who have lived in the UK for over 20 years, they bridge the authentic heritage of Mexico with the sophistication of modern London, resulting in mezcal expressions meticulously curated to embody sustainable luxury and exceptional sipping experiences.
“At Mezcal Reina, we see ourselves as curators and custodians of the world’s finest mezcal, with every drop shaped by craftsmanship, heritage and purpose. We are deeply committed to regenerating agave ecosystems in Oaxaca and across Mexico, prioritising seed-grown agaves and ancient milpa-style agriculture to protect biodiversity and support the communities that sustain this craft. What defines us is not only how we make mezcal, but the soul we pour into every expression.” says Susana Franyutti, Co-Founder of Mezcal Reina.
Crafted by fourth and fifth-generation maestros mezcaleros using centuries-old methods, these spirits are defined by their deep, smoky complexity and elegance. Every bottle of Mezcal Reina is a testament to the fine art of authentic traditional Mexican craft and environmental stewardship. Fully mature agaves are slow-roasted in underground pits, then hand-milled or crushed using a traditional volcanic stone wheel (Tahona). Natural, additive-free fermentation is followed by double distillation in traditional copper or handmade clay pots, preserving purity, character and depth.
The range is curated as a progression of experience, from introductory elegance to rare, collectible luxury, offering a mezcal for every stage of discovery and exploration, to profound reverence.
Central to the portfolio is Mezcal Reina Espadín, launching for the first time this February as a standout addition to the range. Expertly crafted using artisanal methods, this expression utilises Angustifolia agave, which can be harvested sooner to protect the land and preserve the species. Mezcal Reina Espadín offers a refined, balanced everyday luxury sipping experience, perfectly embodying sustainable luxury. Its versatility makes it ideal for both elegant everyday luxury sipping and premium cocktail mixability.
For those drawn to deeper flavour complexity and sophistication, the Mezcal Reina portfolio extends to its distinctive Ensamble Espadín Tobasiche, the exceptional Tobalá, the epitome of terroir expression and flavour, and the rare, limited-edition Arroqueño. Each expression is meticulously handcrafted using time-honoured, ancestral techniques, featuring both wild and cultivated agaves that can take up to 25 years to reach maturity. These remarkable mezcals are created for those who appreciate the art of slow, contemplative sipping, offering extraordinary complexity, depth and a profound sense of place – the hallmarks of sustainable luxury at its finest.
The full Mezcal Reina range is available via Master of Malt, at specialist retailers and can be enjoyed at select, exclusive venues.
Mezcal Reina Espadín (NEW)
New launch available from February 2026 £68 RRP | 43% ABV
This artisanal Espadín is crafted from Angustifolia agave, harvested at 5-8 years of age, making it one of the most versatile and widely used agaves in mezcal production. Distilled in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, Oaxaca, it follows a traditional artisanal process: the agave is cooked in earthen pits, milled by horse on a stone mill (tahona), naturally occurring yeast, no additives, in wooden vats without preservatives and double distilled in copper stills.
The Espadín delivers herbal and green notes, with bright citrus, pear and banana, natural caramel-like sweetness, balanced with gentle smoke. Approachable yet complex, it is designed for everyday luxury sipping and perfect for premium cocktail mixability.
Mezcal Reina Ensamble Espadín Tobasiche – 100% Handmade
£94 RRP | 48% ABV
Mezcal Reina Tobalá – 100% Handmade £180 RRP | 37% ABV
Made from wild Potatorum agave harvested in the mountainous terrain of Sola de Vega, Tobalá is prized for its rarity and intensity. Taking up to 18 years to mature, each plant yields very little liquid, making this a true small-batch mezcal where one agave often equates to one bottle and is the pinnacle of terroir expression and flavour.
Produced using traditional ancestral methods, and distilled using traditional clay pot methods, this expression is complex yet delicate, with mango, papaya and passion fruit, layered with grapefruit and a floral hint of rose, complemented by liquorice, cocoa, tobacco, a touch of leather, butterscotch, vanilla and gentle smoke, with earthy, mineral undertones. Elegant luxury sipping that represents the pinnacle of terroir expression and flavour.
This ancestral Ensamble brings together cultivated Espadín and wild Karwinskii (Tobasiche) agaves, grown in the rocky soils of Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca. With Karwinskii taking up to 12-15 years to mature, the resulting mezcal is deeply expressive of place.
Produced using traditional ancestral methods including hand milling, natural fermentation and double distillation in handmade clay pots, this mezcal is earthy and mineral, with zesty lime, fresh herbaceous notes, roasted agave, cedar and leather, complemented by subtle smokiness and vanilla with candied citrus. A beautifully rich and complex expression suited to elevated luxury sipping.
Mezcal Reina Arroqueño – Special Release, 100% Handmade £485 RRP | 53% ABV
A rare and exceptional expression made from wild Americana agave, Arroqueño requires 18-25 years to mature and careful long-term planning to harvest sustainably. This limited-edition mezcal is produced using traditional ancestral methods and distilled in clay pots and bottled at full proof, showcasing the agave’s character.
Full-bodied and rich, with tropical and dark fruits, grapefruit, cinnamon, vanilla and honey, complemented by savoury, mineral and subtle herbal and floral undertones, finished with a velvety texture for a complex collectible profile.
The bottle features a bespoke label created in collaboration with award-winning Oaxacan artist Sabino Guisu. This rare mezcal is curated for connoisseurs and collectors who appreciate slow, reverent sipping.
