Moto Hospitality, the UK’s largest operator of Motorway Service Areas, has opened its newest Motorway Service Area near Sawtry on the A1(M).

The new site, open in time for the Easter holiday rush, is strategically located on the A1(M) between Peterborough and Huntingdon and is designed to cater to a wide range of motorists and visitors.  It boasts ample parking options with over 200 spaces for cars, HGV’s and coaches.  In line with Moto’s commitment to sustainability and the EV transition, the site also features six Gridserve 350 kW electric vehicle charging bays.

The circa £17m Sawtry development will provide exceptional service and amenities to customers travelling across the UK, offering a comfortable and convenient experience for all visitors and hosts a range of stores and food options, including Burger King, Costa Coffee, Greggs, M&S, Pret, WH Smith and a BP forecourt.

The development brings over 100 new jobs to the local area, over half (60%) of which have been filled by local residents living in Sawtry village, demonstrating Moto’s commitment to supporting local as well as national economic growth.

Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Moto Hospitality, said, “We are delighted to open our newest motorway service area at Sawtry, which not only enhances our network of service areas across the UK but also brings fantastic brands to motorists, alongside essential services such as HGV parking and state-of-the-art EV charging hubs.

“This is our second new service area in the last four years, following the opening of Rugby in April 2021. We are also excited about having planning approval already granted for two further motorway service areas on the M5 and A1(M) and one truck stop off the M26.”
