New grant scheme from Spar to support school sports days

Following the huge success of last year’s school sports day grants campaign, leading symbol group Spar UK is offering another £50,000 to support schools in their local communities across the UK.

The 2024 Spar School Sports Day Grants campaign will give Spar shoppers in England, Scotland and Wales the chance to apply for a £200 grant for their local primary or secondary school to enable them to buy much needed sports equipment.

Suzanne Dover, Spar UK brand and marketing director, said: “Spar stores want to do their bit to keep the younger generations healthy and active and we are delighted to announce that our school sports day grants campaign is launching again on the 8th February.

“With over 2,000 entries last year, we hope to have even more schools apply this year and bring more Spar stores and schools together in the community. This campaign has been a great means to encourage shoppers to visit their local SPAR store when applying for a grant.”

From 8th February shoppers will be able to scan a QR code in a Spar store or visit the Spar website to apply for their local school.

The campaign will be amplified digitally on the Spar UK website with a designated landing page featuring tips on how to keep active and get involved with sports outside of school. SPAR UK is supporting the campaign with paid social media ads as well as inspirational video content featuring GB athlete Marli Jessop. Consumer PR support will focus on how sports days have changed over the years and the new types of sports that children can now get involved in.

The campaign will be live from 8th February until 20th March 2024 with winning schools being contacted in May 2024.
