Road safety is an important concern for all drivers. Modern cars are equipped with technology to help prevent accidents and protect passengers. Let’s look at how it works using the Ford Fiesta as an example and find out what experts recommend.

Collision avoidance systems

A collision avoidance system is one of the key safety technologies. It uses cameras and sensors to monitor the traffic situation, warns the driver of obstacles and applies braking if necessary. According to Road Safety GB, such systems can reduce accidents by 38 per cent. UK-based safety expert James Walker notes: ‘These technologies allow drivers to react faster to hazards, which helps prevent accidents.’

Blind spot monitoring system

Blind spot monitoring system also plays an important role in collision avoidance. According to the Department for Transport, around 12 per cent of accidents are caused by vehicles in blind spots. In Ford Fiesta, the system alerts the driver to vehicles in the blind spot, reducing the risk of collisions when changing lanes.

Automatic Emergency Braking

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) helps the driver in an emergency. Euro NCAP research shows that cars with this system are 50 per cent less likely to be involved in serious injury accidents.

The importance of regular maintenance

The technical condition of your vehicle plays a key role in safety. It is important to regularly check the condition of your Ford Fiesta’s brake discs, as wear and tear can increase stopping distances and create a dangerous situation. The condition of the tyres and steering system should also be monitored. In the UK, around 25 per cent of accidents are related to vehicle faults, according to Brake.

Tips for transporting children

Using a child car seat correctly is an important part of safety. In the UK, the law requires the use of a car seat for children up to 135cm tall or 12 years old. It’s important to choose the right car seat for your child’s age and weight and ensure it is fitted securely. According to Autodoc.co.uk child car seat use  car seat reduces the risk of injury in children by 71%. Experts recommend checking that the seat is compatible with the car and securing it firmly in place with seat belts or the Isofix system for maximum protection.

Conclusion

Modern technology such as collision avoidance systems, blind spot monitoring and automatic braking, combined with regular vehicle maintenance, including brake disc checks, and the correct transport of children, can help reduce risks on the road. By combining driver responsibility with innovation, every journey can be made safer.
