Sustainable Seafood September is a month-long celebration of sustainable seafood.
The Marine Stewardship Council, which runs the blue MSC ecolabel and is on a mission to end overfishing, is asking seafood lovers to choose seafood from sustainable sources only, for the month of September and beyond. By this one simple act, seafood lovers can play their part in protecting the ocean.
As most seafood consumed at home in the UK is made from frozen, tinned or pre-packed seafood, the MSC has put together a round-up of easy-to-prep sustainable seafood products, which will enable shoppers to make quick, versatile, family meals.
Seth McCurry, MSC UK & Ireland commercial manager, said: “Eating sustainable seafood helps to protect vital ocean ecosystems and stop overfishing. With one-third of the world’s fish stocks overfished this is more important than ever.
“Sustainable seafood is good for the ocean as well as being good for your health. It’s packed full of vital nutrients such as Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, calcium, iron, and vitamin B12, and it’s important that seafood lovers know they can eat their recommended two portions or more a week as long as they choose seafood with the blue MSC ecolabel on it. This means the seafood comes from a sustainable source which is not impacting the wider marine environment.”
