Tails.com, the tailored dog food service, has today announced that it has become a certified B Corporation, or B Corp, following assessment by  B Lab, the non-profit network  transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
Certified B Corporations are independently assessed by B Lab and they must demonstrate how they meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
Tails.com achieved an overall score of 89.8 points across five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Customers, Community and Environment. 80 is the benchmark score required to become a B Corp and 50 is the average estimate of points for any ‘normal’ business.
Paolo Woods-Wyatt, CEO at Tails.com commented: “Tails.com is founded on the ambition to change the world of pet food for good. Achieving certification as a B Corp from B Labs is rightly a challenging process and it has also been a valuable catalyst to inspire us to check, measure and challenge the way we run our business for the future.
“This is just the start of our B Corp journey and we have much more we want to do. I’m very proud of each member of this team, and the choices we are obsessing over, each day, to make sure that feeding Tails.com is a great choice for all our customers, their pets and the communities and environment we live in. We’re honoured that Tails.com is now able to contribute as part of the vibrant UK community of B Corp businesses.”
Tails.com achieved strong results from its environmental strategy. This included moving all its sites to 100% renewable energy while reducing total waste generated in Tails.com’s factories by 14% and donating over 455,000 meals to pets in need in 2023.
Benefits for the Tails.com team also scored highly in the Workers area of B Lab’s Assessment including paying a relevant local real living wage for each site, holistic for flexible working and work life balance including a 9 day fortnight (for no loss of pay) in addition to enhanced parental leave, breastfeeding at work policies, and socially responsible pension options all contributed to points.
There are over 2,000 registered B Corps in the UK with in excess of 81,000 workers employed within them.
