Telmont becomes first Champagne House to become Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™)

Champagne house backed by DiCaprio achieves trail blazing status

TelmontAfter several months of rigorous auditing and on-site assessments conducted by Ecocert Environnement, Maison Telmont has become the first Champagne House to be awarded Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) status, at the “Bronze” level, for its organic certified vineyards. This marks an important milestone for Telmont, which has been pursuing, since 2021 and under its “In the Name of Mother Nature” project, the ambition to craft exceptional wines with more respect for the environment.
Launched in 2017 in the United States by the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA), an organization founded by the Rodale Institute, Dr. Bronner’s and Patagonia, the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) framework is built on one fundamental requirement: organic certification. This means a complete halt to herbicides, synthetic pesticides, synthetic fungicides and synthetic fertilizers. On top of this foundation, the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) adds demanding criteria supporting
biodiversity, soil regeneration and fair working conditions for agricultural workers. This philosophy has long guided Telmont: an approach to viticulture that is both organic and regenerative, respectful of the soil, of biodiversity and of the women and men who make its champagnes possible.
To achieve the “Bronze” level, Telmont demonstrated exemplary practices on its certified estate on environmental as well as social criteria: planting trees, collecting rainwater, using cover crops, embracing biodiversity at the heart of the vineyard, scientifically measuring soil health, and ensuring fair, respectful and inclusive working conditions.
This certification is a continuation of the “In the Name of Mother Nature”* project launched in 2021, which aims to convert 100% of Telmont’s estate and partner vineyards to organic and regenerative agriculture by 2031, and to reach Net Zero by 2050. For the House, choosing organic and regenerative viticulture is the guarantee of producing wines of the highest quality, wines with vibrant character, full of life. Our manifesto-cuvée, Réserve de la Terre, offers a most compelling proof: crafted exclusively from organic grapes, it expresses a terroir that is respected and nurtured without any artifices.
“Becoming the first Champagne house to earn Regenerative Organic Certification® (ROC™) is a major achievement for Telmont and for Champagne as a whole,” said Leonardo DiCaprio, investor in Maison Telmont. By pioneering sustainable winemaking practices, Telmont is continuing to shape the future of the industry.”
“This certification crowns several years of dedicated effort. By obtaining the certification ROC™, we are stating loud and clear our conviction: agriculture must be both organic AND regenerative. One cannot exist without the other! Let’s ROC™,” said Ludovic du Plessis, President of Maison Telmont.
“As the regenerative organic movement grows globally, we are thrilled to welcome Telmont as the first champagne producer to become ROC™,” says Christopher Gergen, CEO of the Regenerative Organic Alliance.  “It’s another reflection that caring for mother nature and creating exceptional products provide a beautiful, sustainable pairing.”
