Diversity in Retail, the organisation that has built a Collaboration Community dedicated to diversity and inclusion in the Retail industry, is proud to announce that it has achieved its mission of positively impacting over 1 million employees globally by 2025, two years ahead of schedule.

This milestone was reached as Tesco, one of the world’s largest retailers with over 345,000 employees, became the latest member of the Diversity in Retail Community which now boasts 28 of the UK’s biggest retail brands. With Tesco’s commitment to creating a diverse culture representing its evolving communities, this is an important step on the road to building working environments that value individuality and forge a sense of belonging.

“From the outset, Diversity in Retail was focused on helping companies across the retail industry to build diverse and inclusive organisations,” said Tea Colaianni, founder and chair of Diversity in Retail. “We set ourselves the goal of positively impacting over 1 million employees globally by 2025 so delivering on this ambition two years ahead of schedule marks a huge milestone. We are also thrilled to be welcoming Tesco as our newest member. With Tesco’s dedication to the diversity agenda we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and the progress we can make by working together.”

Diversity In Retail offers a range of resources and support to companies in Retail including leadership programmes, mentorship, networking opportunities, and most importantly, the Collaboration Community focused on nurturing collaboration and sharing best practice from across the industry. Through its collaborative approach, Diversity in Retail is helping to create a more inclusive industry and a more rewarding working environment for all employees.

Jason Tarry, CEO UK and ROI at Tesco, said: “Tesco is pleased to be joining Diversity in Retail. We’re committed to building an inclusive workplace where everybody feels welcome and colleagues can be at their best. Joining this community represents a great opportunity to work with other businesses to share best practice and learnings that can help shape our approach to diversity and inclusion”.

Tesco joins other leading organisations in the Diversity in Retail Collaboration Community, including Wickes, Sainsbury’s, WHSmith, Kingfisher, John Lewis and others, all committed to creating inclusive environments through the power of collaboration. With Diversity in Retail now reaching over 1 million employees globally there has never been greater momentum in the drive to build a more diverse and inclusive retail sector nor more appetite within organisations to deliver positive change.
