TescoTesco is bringing the luxury of Wagyu steaks to over 100 stores, making this coveted, restaurant-quality meat, more accessible than ever. As premium at-home dining continues to grow, Tesco’s latest additions to its Finest Steakhouse range, offer unparalleled flavour, marbling, and tenderness, perfect for both steak connoisseurs and home cooks looking to elevate mealtimes.

A cut above the rest

Sourced for its superior quality and buttery-soft texture, Tesco is launching four expertly selected cuts:

  • NEW Tesco Finest Wagyu Ribeye (250g): The ultimate indulgence, featuring exceptional marbling for a sumptuously tender, buttery texture once cooked. Pairs perfectly with a new world Cabernet or Shiraz, such as Tesco Finest Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon.
  • NEW Tesco Finest Wagyu Sirloin (250g): A perfect balance of deep flavour, this sirloin can be enjoyed with a complex Bordeaux such as Tesco Finest St Emilion Grand Cru.
  • NEW Tesco Finest Wagyu Fillet (200g): Naturally marbled for enhanced succulence this melt-in-the-mouth cut, is best complemented by a rich, aged Rioja, like Tesco Finest Rioja Reserva.
  • NEW Tesco Finest Wagyu Rump (250g): A flavour-packed cut with exceptional texture, ideal with a juicy Malbec, like Tesco Finest Argentinian Malbec.

A response to growing demand

Wagyu steak has never been more popular, with searches for Wagyu up 87% year-on-year on Tesco.com*. As Wagyu continues to grow in popularity, Tesco is working with a number of trusted British farmers to develop the range and lead the way in making premium quality steak more accessible to UK shoppers, whilst still offering great value.

Jamie Robinson, executive chef at Tesco, said: “We know our customers are increasingly looking for high-quality, restaurant-style meals they can conveniently cook at home, and we wanted to offer something really special. By expanding our Wagyu offering as part of our Tesco Finest Steakhouse range, we’re bringing an exceptional level of quality to more people at a price point that feels more accessible.”

Top tips for cooking the perfect Wagyu Steak at home:

  1. Pre-season your Wagyu Steak with fine sea salt or table salt to ensure an even coverage for maximum crust.
  2. There’s no need to add additional oil when cooking, as there is enough marbling in the Wagyu Steak already.
  3. Add a small knob of butter, with a pinch of thyme, and a garlic clove to the pan 2-3 minutes before the Wagyu Steak is ready to add an extra level of flavour.

Did you know? Due to the marbling in the Wagyu Steak, it can taste even better if you cook it a little more than your usual Steak. If you normally enjoy steak Medium Rare, you may enjoy your Wagyu Steak cooked to Medium.

Perfect, for a special occasion or weekend treat, the new Tesco Finest Wagyu Steaks are now available in selected stores and online at Tesco.com now.
