Tesco welcomes first fully flushable, microplastic-free period pad

Tesco FLUUS, the first fully flushable and 100% biodegradable period pad, launches in 249 Tesco stores nationwide, bringing sustainable femcare to millions of weekly shoppers for the first time.

The launch marks a pivotal shift for FLUUS with its first major supermarket partnership, positioning sustainable period care alongside everyday essentials. Tesco will stock the range within existing femcare categories, with product extension likely after a review in February.

“We wanted FLUUS to be available where people already do their shopping.” said Dr. Olivia Ahn, inventor and FLUUS co-founder.”Why should you have to make a special trip for sustainable period products? Making conscious choices should be part of your normal routine, not an extra chore.”

FLUUS pads are completely flushable using patented Flushtec® technology. Users can put the pad, with its wrapper in the toilet and flush guilt-free as products disintegrate completely in water leaving zero landfill, zero microplastics and zero hassle.

Breaking autopilot shopping habits

The Tesco partnership taps into the habits of weekly shoppers, making it easier for people to rethink their usual femcare choices. “Most of us buy our period products at the supermarket without thinking twice,” explained Dr Olivia. “But when we see better options right next to the brands we choose in autopilot mode, it’s easier to make more conscious choices.”

Eradicating harmful microplastics for body and planet

Traditional period products often contain microplastics that can enter the body, with potential health impacts most people aren’t aware of.

“I’ve seen research on the harmful impact of microplastics on our health which is why I’m passionate about eradicating them from period care,” highlights Dr Ahn. “FLUUS is the only brand offering a microplastic-free, fully biodegradable alternative to the market. Launching in Tesco’s offers an opportunity to encourage people to rethink their habits and make healthier choices.”

£12M already raised for this ‘start-up’

It’s not just retailers like Boots – and now Tesco – rallying behind FLUUS. Dr. Olivia secured a pre-seed round of £515K led by Ada Ventures straight out of medical school, a testament to the groundbreaking potential of FLUUS technology. Industry heavyweights including Eileen Burbidge, Mona ElNagger, Check Warner, and Deepali Nangia have also backed her vision, serving as mentors, advisors, and board members. Their belief in FLUUS goes beyond the product – it’s about the movement it represents, with the brand raising more than £12M to date.

The plan is to take the tech beyond period care

FLUUS isn’t stopping at period products. With its game-changing flushable technology, the company is already exploring applications in incontinence care, baby products, and household hygiene – industries ripe for disruption.

“We’re rethinking disposable hygiene entirely,” Dr. Olivia shares. “This isn’t just about periods; it’s about creating products that fit into our lives without harming the planet.”

FLUUS is more than just a brand – it’s a revolution in sustainable femcare. By challenging outdated norms and engineering products that meet both human and environmental needs, Dr. Olivia is proving that the future of femcare is flushable, sustainable, and unstoppable.

FLUUS Liners are priced £3.49 (15 in a pack) and Winged Medium £3.99 (10 pack), available from 29th August 2025 in Tesco stores nationwide and on Tesco.com.
