New research from No7, the UK’s number one skincare brand1, reveals that while many of us still love a big night out-out, we also get just as excited about a big night in-in, and a quality night’s sleep. In what is being dubbed as the rise of the Big ‘Night In-In’, 65% of British women say they prefer a night at home and a good night’s sleep over a night out dancing.
In the survey of 2,000 women, just 5% said their perfect night would be out partying with their girlfriends, compared to 51% who prefer staying in and 40% who actively look forward to going to bed early. ‘Cinderella partying’ appears to be a growing trend with 51% of those who going outsaying they are home and tucked up in bed before midnight. Despite the shift in preference from a night ‘out-out’ to a night ‘in-in’, 38% of women still enjoy music as part of their evening routine, with many listening to the club tunes that they used to get ready to (25%).
To celebrate the joy of a big night ‘in-in’, and to help promote a restful night’s sleep, No7 has partnered with a producer, sleep scientist and DJ Sara Cox to remix the iconic 90s club classic,Rhythm of the Night into a soothing, relaxation-focused version, to prepare listeners for a night of restorative beauty sleep.
No7 commissioned the research and the remix of Rhythm of the Night to mark the launch of its Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum, which has been expertly formulated to reverse visible signs of skin damage while you sleep. No7 scientists have found a skin ‘rush hour’ when skin repair peaks between 2am and 4am, highlighting the importance of a good night’s sleep for skin.
No7 enlisted the expertise of sleep scientist, Dr Iuliana Hartescu, to help re-master the popular 90s track Rhythm of the Night into a sleep-inducing melody. Modifications to the track have been carefully considered to ensure listeners surrender to relaxation. Following progressive relaxation patterns to mirror the brain waves transitioning from awake to drowsy, then asleep, the new track introduces soothing instrumentals. Other adjustments include a slower pace and lowered frequency of the vocals, with ongoing repetitive beats which have a sedative effect on the brain. The remix also complements the ideal heart-rate for relaxation and sleep, with soft mimics of heartbeats as the track draws to an end.
Dr Iuliana Hartescu comments: “The beats, tempo and sound patterns in the track have been aligned with the body’s natural circadian rhythms to help people wind down and be lulled into a restful sleep.”
Commenting on the remix, Sara Cox says: “I’m so excited to be part of this campaign with No7, to celebrate the beauty of a big night ‘in-in”. I used to love partying to club classics like ‘Rhythm of the Night’, and as someone who now also relishes a big night in, it’s been great fun partnering on the reimagining of an iconic 90s club anthem. The new track is all about finding a slower, more soothing beat to help wind down, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and getting our skin ready for a night-time skin repair rush hour. I like to think of it as prepping my skin for its own private after-party of renewal!”
