The Perfume Shop, the UK’s largest specialist perfume retailer, is proud to participate in The Great British Beauty Clean Up, a nationwide initiative launching in March 2025. This collaboration between retailers, brands, and professionals aims to significantly reduce beauty industry waste and drive positive environmental change. Aligning with Global Recycling Day (18th March) and the United Nations International Day of Zero Waste (30th March), the campaign will encourage increased recycling in stores, salons, and homes across the UK.
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, The Perfume Shop continues to expand its market-leading perfume bottle recycling service:
Increased Recycling: 7,861 bottles have been recycled in 2024 so far, a 15% increase from the previous year across The Perfume Shop’s 209 stores.
Upgraded Recycling Units: In June 2024, the retailer introduced sturdier, wooden recycling units with a dedicated section for used fragrance blotters.
Customer Incentives: Customers returning empty perfume bottles receive 15% off same-day in-store purchases.
Repurposing Bottles: The Perfume Shop creatively reuses returned bottles, incorporating them into chandeliers in stores or recycling them through sustainable partners.
Growing Demand for Refills: Refillable fragrances are growing +23% compared to +9% for non-refillable fragrances, further driving the availability of in-store refills.
Commitment to Reforestation: The Perfume Shop’s ongoing mission is to make the planet a greener, more environmentally friendly place to live. Since working alongside tree planting partners from April 2021, 475,395 trees have been planted as a result of customers bringing their empty perfume bottles back to stores and other initiatives.
Veritree Partnership: Since May 2023, The Perfume Shop has committed to planting 99,635 trees with Veritree, further supporting its mission to create a more sustainable future.
2024 Sustainability Growth: In 2024, The Perfume Shop planted 67,497 trees, marking a 36% increase compared to 2023, and recycled 11,832 bottles, a 24% rise from the previous year.
