Brits are stocking up on emergency essentials driving soaring sales, following the UK government’s launch of its ‘Be Ready’ campaign on Thursday, 22 October, according to the new online shopping destination, Joybuy.
Comparing 22–25 October with the same four days the previous week, Joybuy recorded a more than 22 times (2,100%) increase in its sales value of torches, while portable radios rose by 1,000%.
Other emergency recommendations also experienced growing demand, with batteries and power banks, hand sanitiser, and tinned and canned foods all up significantly over the three days. Sales of blankets and wet wipes also jumped.
A Joybuy spokesperson said: “The people of the UK clearly listened to the government’s advice and rushed to stock up on emergency essentials. We saw unprecedented sales jumps for items like torches and power banks and have launched our dedicated ‘Be Ready’ page to make it easier and more affordable for households to prepare for the unexpected.”
To help customers prepare for unexpected disruption, Joybuy has launched a dedicated ‘Be Ready’ shopping page, bringing together everyday essentials including food cupboard favourites, drinks, frozen food, home & baby essentials, health & wellbeing products, portable light & power devices, and pet food.
