Urban Outfitters is to open the first flagship store in Madrid, Spain, as the brand continues its expansion in Europe.
Opening on 22nd November, the Madrid Urban Outfitters store will be located on one of the city’s most iconic shopping destinations, Gran Via 43, and is a beautiful building created by the prolific Madrid architect D. Luis Gutiérrez Soto. Originally a cinema it has been beautifully restored to its original design and its neoclassical façade stands out with spectacular decorative motifs. The store spans over 8,000 sq. feet across three floors and expands the brand’s retail footprint in Spain that includes two successful stores in Barcelona.
Anthony Clarke, concept director, at Urban Outfitters EU, said: “Our ambition with new stores is to look for historical buildings that we can restore and bring back to life. Madrid was one of the most exciting restoration opportunities being an old cinema, and it felt like the perfect location for an Urban Outfitters. Our team has done an exceptional piece of work and we cannot wait for our customers to see it.”
Emma Wisden, managing director, Urban Outfitters EU, said: “We’ve delivered strong growth across Europe over the past couple of years and are excited to be in a position to continue to grow despite tough prevailing economic winds. We have always prioritised an amazing in-store brand experience and in Madrid the team has delivered on that brilliantly.”
The Madrid flagship store marks the fifth Urban Outfitters store opening in Europe this year, following Stockholm, Gothenburg, Norwich and Hannover. The strategic retail expansion in Europe continues into 2024 and beyond with a second flagship location on Champs-Élysées Paris in March 2024 and further openings in 11 European countries over the next 5 years.
The Urban Outfitters Madrid store will be open from 22nd November and adds to the current 68 locations across EU.
