Zyliss launches Uni Kitchen Essentials collection to equip students for independent living

Zyliss Zyliss, the trusted Swiss kitchen brand celebrated for its innovative design, lasting quality, and commitment to sustainability, has launched its Uni Kitchen Essentials collection – a curated range of 73 must-have products designed to help students set up their own kitchens with confidence, durability, and value in mind.

With the rising cost of living putting students under increasing pressure, the National Student Accommodation Survey 2025 shows average rent now stands at £563 per month, soaring to £812 in London. More than half of students say they struggle to cover rent at times, and over a third have considered dropping out due to financial strain. Students now spend an average of £1,104 monthly on rent, food, bills, and transport – meaning every purchase for their new home needs to work harder and last longer.

At the heart of the collection is the Zyliss Kitchen Essentials 7-Piece Bundle – a hand-picked set of high-performance tools with a 21% saving. Designed for versatility, comfort, and long-term use, the bundle includes:

  • Comfort Offset Knife – for precise slicing
  • Pizza & Pastry Cutter – for effortless cutting
  • Fine Grater – perfect for cheese and zest
  • Wood Fibre Cutting Board – hygienic and durable chopping surface
  • Slotted Turner – for easy flipping and serving
  • Silicone Spatula – for versatile cooking and baking tasks
  • 0.37L Borosilicate Glass Container – airtight food storage

Every item in the bundle is built using high-quality materials and ergonomic design to make cooking easier and more enjoyable – and with warranties of up to 5 years for the bundle products (and 10 years for some Zyliss tools), these are essentials that will outlast student life. For parents, it’s a practical investment in quality that won’t need replacing every term.

The Uni Kitchen Essentials range also reflects Zyliss’s strong sustainability commitments, with many products made from recycled or responsibly sourced materials and designed for longevity to reduce waste. Students who are eco-conscious – or parents wanting to support more sustainable living – can find tools that align with their values without sacrificing performance.

Commenting on the launch, Heidi Thomas, head of marketing at DK Household Brands (including Zyliss), said: “Heading off to university is exciting, but for many it’s their first time running a kitchen on a tight budget. Our Uni Kitchen Essentials range offers students the chance to start with tools that perform brilliantly and last for years – not just their degree. With rent and living costs soaring, this is about making high-quality, sustainable products accessible, so students can focus on their studies and enjoy cooking.”

Adding further relevance, recent reporting from BBC News highlights that UCAS will be offering university places to students who narrowly miss their grade requirements, partly due to shifting applicant demographics and institutions adapting to lower international student intake. With more students entering halls and student accommodation this September, having the right kitchen essentials from day one means they can cook confidently without added stress.

Heidi added: “The Uni Kitchen Essentials range is also a great solution for parents contributing to their child’s move to university. The National Student Accommodation Survey 2025 revealed parents contribute an average of £224 per month towards rent – so when they choose kitchen tools, they want them to last. With our guarantees and durable designs, these products will keep delivering value well beyond university life.”
