Majestic executives saddle up for Isle of Wight charity cycle

Three executive directors from Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, are set to saddle up for a gruelling 100km cycle around the coast of the Isle of Wight in aid of charity.

Majestic’s Executive Chairman and CEO John Colley, Chief Financial Officer Alex Jablonowski and Store Operations Director Keith Blessley will take on the epic challenge on Friday 22nd September, starting and finishing at the retailer’s store in Wootton Bridge.

The gruelling route will see the trio tackling an overall climb of more than 4,400ft – the equivalent of scaling the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis.

It is the third year in a row that members of Majestic’s board have got on their bikes to raise money for charity. In 2021, the directors rode a combined 680 miles on static bikes in the retailer’s Watford support centre, covering the distance from its southernmost store in England, Majestic Falmouth, to its northernmost store, Majestic Edinburgh. The challenge raised more than £17,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity. Last year, the group collected almost £9,000 for Alzheimer’s Society after completing the 55-mile London to Brighton Cycle.

Their 2023 challenge will boost the coffers of the newly formed Majestic Charitable Foundation, which is initially supporting The Brain Tumour Charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and Child Bereavement UK. John, Alex and Keith aim to beat the £9,000 raised from last year’s cycling challenge by the time they reach the finish line on Friday afternoon.

Majestic CEO John Colley said: “We are looking forward to getting out on our bikes once again to support three brilliant causes. We know how much our charity partners mean to our colleagues – and to many of our customers and suppliers, too – so we wanted to lead by example with our fundraising efforts. With the support and kind donations of our friends, family, colleagues and the general public, we hope to make a real difference.”
