As the evenings get darker and the UK settles into autumn, Too Good To Go and Greggs are reminding customers that there’s never been an easier time to save good food from going to waste.
Autumn brings a change in rhythm for the food-to-go sector. Commutes, school runs and busier diaries return, and shoppers reach for familiar, comforting favourites to get them through the day. A busier season also means more chances for surplus. Too Good To Go and Greggs have spent over 5 years working together to make sure that surplus is enjoyed rather than wasted.
Since the partnership began in 2021, more than 7 million Surprise Bags have been saved from Greggs shops across the UK. The Surprise Bags are available at the end of the day and in the early morning. Alongside them, Too Good To Go Greggs Grab Bags offer surplus items from the chain’s hot food range at points throughout the day, giving customers another way to save food on the go.
Customers reserve and pay through the free Too Good To Go app, then collect from their chosen shop. Contents vary depending on what’s available on the day. Greggs Grab Bags are available in over 2,000 shops nationwide, from £2.99.
Chelsea Kerr, managing director at Too Good To Go UK & Ireland, said: “Autumn is a great reminder of why partnerships like ours with Greggs matter. Routines get busier, budgets get tighter, and people want food that’s convenient and good value. Greggs has been partnered with us for 5 years, and together we’ve shown how a much-loved high street brand can make preventing food waste part of everyday life.”
Gillian Long, retail operations director, Greggs, said: “Our partnership with Too Good To Go plays an important role in redistributing unsold food. Whether it’s a bake, sandwich or sweet treat that’s being saved, it gives our customers a simple way to pick up something they love while helping us make sure good food doesn’t go to waste.”
The Too Good To Go app is free to download.
