East Midlands photo firm develops new Nottingham studio with HSBC backing

A family-run photography business has opened a new studio in West Bridgford, Nottingham, with backing from HSBC UK.

Joint owners of Magpie Portraits Limited, Simon and Wendy Mackney, together with photographer Charlotte Eley, have expanded their customer base into Nottinghamshire. BlossomPop, a new 1,096 sq.ft. boutique studio, will specialise in luxury family, maternity, baby and newborn portraits.

The five-figure funding package from HSBC UK was used to fit-out the site with a partition wall, furniture and equipment including cameras, lighting, computers, screens and props and backdrops. Additionally, the loan has supported the business in developing a website and marketing strategy to encourage bookings.

With the pair’s original site, Mackney Photography, remaining open in the heart of Derby, the Nottingham location is the next step in the business owners’ ambitious growth plan, with further sites set to be added to their portfolio in the coming years.

Wendy Mackney, owner of Mackney Photography, said: “We are so pleased to officially open BlossomPop. We fell in love with this part of Nottingham, and we are so excited to welcome in new customers from the local area. HSBC UK’s support over the past decade has been immense, and the new funding has allowed us to fit-out the site to the highest standard.”

Matthew Cooper, regional manager for Business Banking Direct at HSBC UK, added: “Mackney Photography has been with us since its first site in 2011, and since then we’ve seen the company go from strength to strength. Looking ahead, we’ll be continuing our support as this ambitious business continues to grow with new sites across the East Midlands region.”

Trading as BlossomPop photography, the husband and wife pair opened their first site in Derby in 2011. In 2014, they launched a successful pop-up studio in Derby’s main retail complex, Derbion.
