Perfume retailer The Perfume Shop is celebrating a decade in partnership with the UK’s leading dementia research charity, raising over £1.6 million.
The celebration was marked at The Perfume Shop’s annual conference in Cardiff in October. Ambassador of the charity and husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, Scott Mitchell, attended the event to share his gratitude and speak about the impact of their efforts.
Since 2014, their staff, known as TPS People, from across UK stores have dedicated themselves to raising funds for dementia research, year after year. Activities have included in-store collections, personalised ribbon sales, running challenges, fashion shows, skydives, bungee-jumps and treks up Kilimanjaro.
By the end of 2021, The Perfume Shop’s fundraising had reached over £800,000 – with £90,000 of that being raised in 2021 alone despite stores being closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Setting an ambitious goal to reach £1 million by the end of 2022, The Perfume Shop achieved it in under a year and has already surpassed their 2024 target.
The support over the last decade has funded ten vital research projects, helping Alzheimer’s Research UK’s scientists grow their understanding of dementia and the diseases that cause it. It has also helped to fund the charity’s InfoLine for a year – an important service which answers the public’s questions about dementia.
This partnership celebration follows not long after both The Perfume Shop and Alzheimer’s Research UK celebrated their 30th birthdays, respectively. The perfume retailer is also a member of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Pioneers’ Circle, which recognises supporters that have made an exceptional contribution to the charity.
