Decathlon earns A rating from CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) on Climate

DecathlonDECATHLON is proud to announce that it has received an A rating from CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) on Climate, joining the prestigious A-List. This recognition signifies a key milestone in DECATHLON’s ecological transition journey, confirming that its strategy is aligned with the Paris Agreement’s objective of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

CDP is a non-profit organization that manages the global environmental disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions, with over 23,000 companies disclosing in 2024. Its objective is to challenge companies on their climate strategies, assess their environmental performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and help them anticipate future regulations.

After six years of participating in the CDP’s comprehensive environmental disclosure and scoring process, DECATHLON has achieved an A rating for its efforts in addressing climate change. This achievement reflects its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and implementing industry best practices to meet its ambitious environmental goals.

In comparison, in 2023, DECATHLON reduced its absolute CO₂e emissions by 11.7% compared to 2021, while 48.1% of the electricity consumed by its production sites came from renewable sources.

These rankings drive DECATHLON to continuously strengthen its commitments across all aspects of the CDP assessment. The CDP questionnaire evaluates three distinct environmental themes, each with a separate score. While DECATHLON demonstrates strong performance in climate, the company remains dedicated to further enhancing its strategies for forest and water management. In 2025, this commitment will be reinforced through the development of formal deforestation and comprehensive water strategies.

Barbara Martin Coppola, DECATHLON’s CEO, commented: “Reducing our environmental impact is a fundamental priority for Decathlon. So, we’re really proud to have been recognised with an ‘A’ rating from the CDP for our climate efforts. As the largest sports retailer in the world, we have a responsibility to protect the playground upon which our customers use our products. To do so, we are investing heavily in the decarbonisation of our entire value chain, using cleaner energy with our partners, redesigning our products with sustainability in mind and scaling our circular business models. Now, the road to improvement continues and we are deeply determined to travel it.”

CDP manages the largest environmental database worldwide and adheres to the TCFD (Task Force on Financial Disclosure) recommendations. Using a precise and independent methodology, CDP assesses companies, assigning scores from ‘A’ to ‘D’. This assessment considers the completeness of submitted data, the evaluation and management of environmental risks, and the execution of strong environmental leadership practices, such as the establishment of significant and ambitious goals. These scores are crucial for guiding investment and sourcing towards a sustainable, zero-carbon, and resilient economy.
