Huge Expansion For Specsavers in Canada.
British brand Specsavers has announced further expansion overseas as it increases its presence in Canada to 269 locations, establishing it as the country’s leading optical provider in less than four years since it opened its first Canadian store.
The opticians, famous for its ‘Should’ve gone to Specsavers’ catch line, has entered a partnership with Canada’s largest retailer, Loblaw Companies Limited, that will see
111 new Specsavers open within Loblaw locations throughout Canada.
This milestone further cements Specsavers’ position as one of the world’s largest optometry-led businesses, with global growth continuing to be driven from its UK roots.
The new stores will open in select Loblaw grocery stores, including Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and Zehrs, replacing the existing Theodore & Pringle optical brand and giving customers convenient in-store access to advanced eye care services, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans.
Huge Expansion For Specsavers in Canada
This expansion is part of Specsavers’ ongoing strategy to embed accessible eye care services where people shop and live. It also marks Specsavers’ expansion into five new Canadian provinces and one territory, building on its growing presence across North America.
Doug Perkins CBE, co-founder of Specsavers, said: “When we started Specsavers more than 40 years ago from a table tennis table at home in Guernsey, we never imagined that one day we’d be employing over 45,000 people in 11 countries and helping 48 million customers to see and hear more clearly.
“This move into Loblaw grocery stores is a proud moment for us – not just because of the scale, but because it’s another step towards delivering accessible, expert eye care in the heart of the community. Our mission has always been to change lives through better sight – and this new chapter helps us to do just that.”
Each new store will be run by qualified independent optometrists and opticians, providing comprehensive eye exams, prescription glasses, contact lenses and specialist services.
“Theodore & Pringle was born from the belief that eye care should be convenient and affordable for everyone,” said Irene Doody, head of optical, Loblaw Companies Limited. ‘Specsavers’ reputation for accessible eye care aligns perfectly with our own purpose – to help Canadians live life well. Specsavers will provide a seamless transition for our optical customers, while introducing them to a trusted global leader in eye care.”
The first wave of new Specsavers businesses within Loblaw stores is scheduled to open in September, with additional locations following throughout the remainder of the year.
