OpenAI adds new shopping features to ChatGPT

Today, OpenAI is launching new shopping features in ChatGPT: Virtual Try On and Favorites. This update is happening just in time for anyone thinking about an autumn wardrobe refresh.

Out of ChatGPT’s 1.2 billion+ weekly users, many already turn to it for shopping inspiration and for help figuring out what to buy. Building on the capabilities of the newly released ChatGPT Images 2.5, these updates make shopping in ChatGPT more visual, useful, and also fun!

Here’s what to know about the new features:

  • Virtual Try On: Upload a selfie or full-body photo to visualiSe how clothing or an accessory might look on you. Tap “try on” in shopping results, or upload an image of an item and ask ChatGPT to try it on.
  • Favourites: Save products you discover to your Library so you can come back and revisit them later, along with your try-on images.

For example, you might be shopping for a wedding guest dress for a fall wedding in Vermont. All you need to do is upload a photo of yourself and a screenshot of the dress you’re considering to try it on virtually. You could also describe a style that you’re trying – like a black-tie dress with a halter neckline – and ask ChatGPT to shop the pieces. You can even recreate looks from celebrities on inspiration from socials. From there, you can review your favoUrites and make purchases directly from merchants’ sites.
