Morrisons has reached a £5 million fundraising milestone for Marie Curie, marking a significant moment in the first 15 months of their three year partnership with the end of life charity.
Fundraising highlights since the partnership began including its ‘Paint it Yellow’ campaign, where stores across the UK carried out various fundraising and awareness raising activities, as well as the ‘Every Pack Gives Back’ initiative. This saw hundreds of promotional products in yellow packaging appear on Morrisons shelves with a percentage of each product sold donated to Marie Curie. The two initiatives together raised over £1 million for Marie Curie in one month and form part of Morrisons commitment to raise £15 million for the charity by October 2027.
Other highlights include the launch of Marie Curie on the Morrisons More Card app, allowing customers to donate loyalty points to the charity, raising over £90,000 for the charity to date. In addition, more than 5,650 Marie Curie volunteer-led collections were hosted in Morrisons stores across the UK.
Thanks to the Morrisons Foundation, which supports charities like Marie Curie make a positive difference in local communities across the UK, over £120,000 in colleague fundraising has been match-funded, doubling the impact and helping to reach more families in need.
Currently, one in three people in England die without the care and support they need at the end of life. Since launching the partnership in November 2024, Morrisons and Marie Curie have already made a meaningful difference in local communities. Marie Curie hospices have cared for approximately 9,300 people, many supported by Morrisons funded roles, more than 136,000 hours of expert nursing care have been delivered in people’s homes, and almost 11,000 meaningful moments have helped patients and their families when they’ve needed it most.
Rami Baitiéh, Morrisons CEO,said: “We’re extremely proud of our colleagues and customers who’ve helped us to raise an incredible £5 million for our charity partner, Marie Curie.
“We began the partnership with a shared ambition to improve end of life care for local communities and to know we’ve already helped fund more than 136,000 hours of expert nursing care and support for families at the end of life across the UK is truly special. We’re committed to doing what we can for the reminder of our partnership to ensure more people receive the end of life care they deserve.”
Matthew Reed, chief executive at Marie Curie, said: “On behalf of everyone at Marie Curie, I want to thank every Morrisons colleague and customer for their support. From taking part in campaigns like the Great Daffodil Appeal to tackling challenges like our Beat the Trails trek series, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who is helping us close the gap in end of life care. Together, we are enhancing Marie Curie hospices, providing more nurses to deliver expert hospice care at home, and making moments that matter at the end of life.”
In celebration of the milestone, Morrisons and Marie Curie have created a short film starring Morrisons Community Champion, Jacqueline Watson. In the film, Jacqueline shares her story of the Marie Curie support her grandmother received before her death in April this year. You can watch the film here.
