Top tips for perfect revision prep this exam season

As exam season begins to get closer many students will be starting their revision to give them the best chance of acing their results. And whilst the revision itself is one part of that, getting organised is half the battle.

Research from the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) revealed that 85% of students have a hard time revising, especially in the lead up to exams due to stress. By adopting a few smart study habits and hacks, alongside the right stationery to keep you motivated and take you through the season, it can make all the difference.

To help students starting exam season get ready, Helix Oxford has put together some top tips for revision:

  1. Craft a clear plan to keep you in check:

By using a study planner or diary, you can map out the topics you want to cover week by week. Breaking subjects and tasks up into smaller chunks makes everything feel a little more manageable, and being able to tick each off will keep motivation up as you can see how much you’ve got through.

  1. Write smart notes:

Coding your notes in a smart way like separating notebooks by subject or using coloured pens and highlighters for certain themes helps information to stick. Anyway you can make things clear and concise to review the information again at a later date is better.

  1. Test yourself, highlight and review:

Notes and flashcards are perfect for quick quizzes on any subject matter you’ve been working on. Testing yourself is a more effective technique than simply re-reading notes as you can understand where you may need to put a little more time into revising which you can highlight and come back to.

  1. Stay organised:

There’s nothing that keeps you more focused than having an organised workspace and folders / notes. Being able to quickly find what you need helps reduce your time searching, lessening distractions and enabling more time for learning.

  1. Practice makes perfect:

Undergoing a quick practice like you’re taking the real exam can be the perfect way to feel calmly confident in what you’re doing. From practice exams to packing up the stationery you’ll be taking into the test.
