Aldi launches UK-wide Sports Fund for grassroots clubs

AldiGrassroots sports clubs across Great Britain are being urged to apply for funding from Aldi, as the supermarket brings its support for local sport together under one Aldi Sports Fund programme.

Eligible clubs could receive grants of up to £3,000, depending on location, to help cover essential costs such as equipment, kits, coaching, training programmes and facility hire.

This development comes as part of Aldi’s drive to support sport at every level, from local clubs through to Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes. As the Official Supermarket Partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB, Aldi also supports Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes with monthly vouchers for their all-important food shop.

Through the Aldi Sports Fund, select Gold grant recipients will also have the opportunity to meet a Team GB or ParalympicsGB athlete and hear first-hand about their journey in sport.

Grant values and application windows vary by location, with clubs able to visit the Aldi Sports Fund webpage for full details on the funding available in their area.

Tim Ellerton, chief commercial officer at Team GB and Jenny Seymour, commercial director at ParalympicsGB, said: “Aldi is a fantastic partner to Team GB and ParalympicsGB, and we are delighted to see them extend their commitment to supporting sport at every level across the country. From local communities to the world stage, they understand the extraordinary impact sport can have. It will be great to see athletes getting involved and helping to make that impact felt in communities nationwide.”

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi, said: “We know how much local sports clubs mean to the communities they serve. They’re run by passionate volunteers and give people of all ages the chance to get active, try something new and be part of a team.

“For the past 10 years, our Scottish Sports Fund has helped hundreds of clubs, and by bringing this activity together under one UK-wide Aldi Sports Fund, we’re making it easier for even more grassroots organisations to see what support is available in their local area across England and Wales.

“Our partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB is all about inspiring people to get involved in sport. Through the Aldi Sports Fund, we’re helping more clubs continue the fantastic work they do every day.”

To apply in England and Wales, eligible clubs should email sportsfund@aldi.co.uk with no more than 200 words explaining what makes their club great, how the funding would be used and the difference it would make to their local community.

Clubs can visit www.aldi.co.uk/sportsfund for full eligibility criteria, application dates, grant values and details on how to apply in their area.

The Aldi Sports Fund builds on the success of Aldi’s Scottish Sports Fund, which has supported hundreds of local clubs over the past 10 years, and brings funding information for clubs across England, Wales and Scotland together in one place.
