Asda deploys Definely’s contract review technology to innovate its legal workflows

Definely, an AI-powered legaltech company that builds specialist drafting and review tools for legal teams working on complex contracts in Word, will deploy its technology across British supermarket chain Asda’s in-house legal team.

Asda will utilise Definely’s AI technology to speed up complex contract reviews across its legal function. Since its launch, Definely’s ‘Proof’ product has seen strong adoption, a solution designed to automate document review, identify inconsistencies, and ensure accuracy.

Complex contracts sit at the centre of regulatory, financial, reputational, and technological exposure. However, as AI-driven drafting becomes more prevalent in legal practice, the risk of comprehension debt increases as plausible but unvetted content is incorporated into contracts. This creates issues where increased volume impedes a lawyer’s ability to ensure certainty in every deal.

Definely’s specialist tools mitigate this by being built “definition-up”, which gives lawyers a complete picture of how a contract is constructed, how definitions flow, where cross-references break, and how obligations connect across a document. Built natively within Microsoft Word, they help lawyers stay in context, navigate complex agreements with ease, and exercise better judgment.

Definely is trusted by over 150 in-house legal teams and private practice firms, with thousands of users globally. Its customers include top law firms such as A&O Sherman and Slaughter & May, as well as in-house corporate counsel. Between 2020-2024, Definely more than doubled its annual total revenue, and grew by almost 90% in 2025.

Shannon Wright, legal and compliance – GNFR Coordinator at Asda says: “The Definely team have been brilliant partners – responsive, reliable, and genuinely lovely to work with. They have supported us at every step and continue to do so. We’re only a couple of weeks in and Definely is already adding significant value to our day‑to‑day operations.”

Nnamdi Emelifeonwu, co-founder & CEO of Definely, says: “We know that for an in-house team, your value isn’t found in the hours of tedious manual proofreading or jumping between cross-references, but it’s the strategic counsel you can provide to your business leaders. We’re excited to work with the Asda team, ensuring that, from day one, they have greater certainty and control when working with complex contracts and support in high-stakes decision-making.”
