Champagne Telmont announces a strategic partnership with Waitrose, making the retailer the first supermarket to carry its award-winning Telmont Réserve Brut cuvée. This collaboration marks a significant milestone, uniting Champagne Telmont’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability with Waitrose’s dedication to offering high-quality, distinctive and environmentally responsible brands that resonate with evolving consumer preferences.
Maison Telmont, founded in 1912, is located in Damery, near Épernay, France. Champagne Telmont blends four generations of expertise with a commitment to becoming fully organic by 2031, supported by strong sustainable practices. Champagne Telmont’s manifesto, “In the Name of Mother Nature”, showcases their guiding principle, rooted in preserving terroir and biodiversity.
Lee James, managing director UK, Ireland and Nordics at Remy Cointreau, shares: “We are incredibly proud to partner with Waitrose on the selected distribution for Champagne Telmont Réserve Brut in the UK. Waitrose and Champagne Telmont pair perfectly together, both with over 100 years of history, shared values and the belief that by working in partnership together, we can build a more sustainable future. Some of the very best hotels and restaurants in the UK stock Champagne Telmont and I’m delighted that now Waitrose customers will be able to enjoy Champagne Telmont at home too”.
The inclusion of Champagne Telmont at Waitrose strengthens the retailer’s commitment to showcasing sustainable brands within its champagne portfolio. This reinforces Champagne Telmont’s mission to inspire consumers to make more sustainable choices without compromising on taste while remaining unwavering in its pursuit of excellence.
With a vision to become the first Climate Positive Champagne House by 2030 and Net Positive by 2050, Telmont continues to set new standards for environmentally responsible craftsmanship.
James adds: “In the off-trade we will continue to be selective with our distribution, working closely with prestige retail and specialist wine retailers to grow in a sustainable way. Champagne Telmont – In the name of Mother Nature”.
Champagne Telmont’s sustainable milestones:
- In June 2021, Champagne Telmont decommissioned all gift boxes, limited edition packaging and second-skin wraps, embracing the philosophy that the best packaging is no packaging at all.
- Champagne Telmont discontinued the use of bespoke bottles due to their heavy weight (900g) and now opts for the classic champagne bottle (835g).
- Following successful tests with Verallia, Champagne Telmont is set to launchthe lightest champagne bottle (800g) this year – a significant milestone not just for them, but for other brands looking to adopt the same approach. There is no exclusivity.
- Champagne Telmont removed all transparent bottles, as they contain 0% recycled glass and switched to classic green bottles, which are made of 87% recycled glass.
- Champagne Telmont operates on 100% renewable energy and utilises bi-fuel for its tractors.
- Champagne Telmont does not use air freight for transportation.
- Champagne Telmont has transitioned to organic agriculture on its estate and actively encourages its partner winegrowers to do the same, with 60% already onboard. Their goal is to achieve net-zero emissions (-90%), going beyond carbon neutrality. Committed to crafting exceptional champagne without compromising on sustainability, they strive to drive meaningful change in the industry. This vision is also supported by Leonardo DiCaprio, a UN climate change spokesperson and one of Telmont’s four shareholders, who believes in the project’s potential to revolutionise champagne production.
- Champagne Telmont released ‘193,000 Shades of Green’, a collection of uniquely coloured bottles using otherwise unwanted glass. Repurposing discarded transition glass to further minimise its environmental footprint, once again blending elegance with eco-responsibility.
